Chat is handled by its own server, just as logins are handled by their own, instances have their own, zones have their own, etc. No amount of re-installing (side note: virtually never necessary to fix anything), router settings changing, modem configuring, or anything else will resolve this issue.

It's down to SE (currently still in the middle of an infrastructure 'crisis', with an impending expansion launch) upgrading the chat servers, or allocating more computing power to them. I'm afraid that the chat server lag is probably occupying a comfortable space around #17 or #18 on their list of 'things we need to get done, NOW.'

...Especially if they are instructing support to close these concerns. Someone, somewhere asked what they should do with 'chat lag' threads, and they were told to close them. /shrug
