I couldn't keep up, asked to do small pulls because their gear wasn't suitable for it. Argued it was my fault, an overgeared level 80 AST, who 'couldn't keep up'. Even blowing through all my GCDs couldn't keep this guy alive.

I left and ate the penalty; I'm not dealing with people who can't do the bare minimum of at least gearing themselves. Like, OP is a prime example of what some healers have to deal with. Half of the time it's the undergeared tank's fault for not keeping up to date on their own selves.
I've been delving into tanking lately and having experienced dungeons from both the tank and healer perspective really helps you appreciate the importance of their dynamic in groups. If either isn't pulling their weight, it makes them both look bad. I've been the tank who watches their health very slowly dip as the healer kinda stands there, apparently unsure which of their shiny buttons makes the healthbar go up (or insists on Cure I spam) and I've been the healer frantically blowing all their CDs to keep the undergeared tank alive that can't be bothered to use a single mitigation ability, yet insists on making big pulls they can barely control, because pushing AoE buttons is hard.

Posts like OP's just rub me the wrong way. It reminds me of all those bad experiences I've had with people who can't be bothered to even try doing the bare minimum. A good tank/healer is such a thing of beauty and they are my favorite roles to play, so I wish I'd get to experience it more often.
