Baffling behavior

Im unsure if its the witching hour when I get on but I have had already a few groups in my lvl 69 dungeon where they are just irritable. As a tank, i am supposed to engage correct? stance is up, i use my AoE attack and then either continue attacking and or mitigate damage. sounds simple correct?

My team leaves out of range...full well seeing me stop. I die due to no heals. They explain that they believed i was pulling more. I said no problem. its okay. how do we get to the next batch and still die? we all stopped and I observe my healer doing DPS...on 3 peeps...

I suggested my healer should heal. as I'm typing the two DPS die. i say...my man...just hit the heal button. The DPS whom died ...defends the healer? the one who isn't doing his job? its like im in the twilight zone here. how are they getting mad at me for suggesting the healer do the one thing they need to do? "just play the game" they said. I respond "...we can't...we're dying...at the second mob..." They did a vote kick..which in itself was a favor to me. I can't stand that sort of ignorance. Needless to say I reported those cross server users. It's just baffling to me how people act this way.

Second point, I'm unsure how people believe its okay to focus DPS while the team needs heals. I don't mean like top them off from a scratch, I mean, were at 10% where are you on this? I believe many MANY people are mislead that DPS is a big priority to a healer when healing needs to be done. I'm told the creator is to blame but I don't buy it. Its one thing if one says "DO DPS, it saves 10 seconds" but its another when you're casting DMG spells and see people die. I main SCH and I've been in tough spots where I'm healing with no downtime.

Generally speaking, making sure nobody dies due to lack of HP is the healer's #1 priority. DPSing is #2.

It doesn't matter if people are taking unavoidable damage or tank is not using CDs properly. Just make sure they don't die. Yes, people should avoid unnecessary damage and the tank should use proper mitigation. However, this isn’t a good excuse to let them die. Not letting someone die > a healer casting an extra DPS spell.

I don't think asking for someone to do the one thing only their role can do is too much. While I may not have gone for the phrasing you did since it sounds a little condescending (just making an observation, I honestly wouldn't have blinked if someone told me that) , I fully agree that keeping the party alive to DO the damage is more important than doing the damage (though DPS taking hits at all is really a bad sign as well, mostly they shouldn't even need healing).

It sounds like you got a group of friends who either don't understand how the game works and have been carried by a do-it-all Paladin in the past, or were just ... impaired somehow. Be it drink or drugs or distraction or simply boredom.


I wouldn't give it a second thought. You're playing as you're supposed to and silliness such as that is rare.

Unfortunately, they arent my friends. These are just cross server randos. My friends know better thankfully. I help them level as I've gotten them into the game. (There's so much to do).

But yea, thankfully these experiences are rare. I dont want to have to feel like I need to LFG elsewhere and alienate people.

I am genuinely confused how the DPS can die on trash mobs if you are doing your tank job correctly.
Yes healers should heal, but if the DPS die on trash mobs, I doubt the healer is the issue.

Yeah that's what i thought too, unless they literally bathed in the trahsmobs aoe again and again.
That's why i do never believe stories here, it's like way too suspicious or everytime ppl like op do run on total idiots.
So as you say my guess is that since we only got the op pov that is obviously heavily biased it's probably either a lot less dramatic that he makes it sounds like, or he did something and did hide this stuff while writting this post.
I do a ton of roulette and random dungeons, ppl being bad is common but that bad i've yet experienced it.

OP said that they died again on the second pull. Hence why the mobs were attacking the DPS. I quote him below.

Yes you are supposed to engage. Instead of "attack or mitigate" you can "attack and mitigate" where you press the mitigation between attacks.

A lot of people want big pulls from tanks and will run ahead, pull enemies to you or abandon, especially in level 50/60/70/80 dungeons. I had to deal with this harassment regularly when I was new to tanking. I stopped the harassment by sprinting and doing big pulls, but this is undesirable the first time because of not being familiar with the dungeon.

The reason that healers do damage a lot is because they don't need to heal very often most of the time. They have heal abilities with no cast time that they can use between attacks and they may have been using these, especially if it was a scholar. Healers doing damage is not what causes wipes, healers not healing is so they should have at least been using their abilities.

Well you could have brought your mobs to the rest of the group. Why would you single pull in a lvl 69 dungeon?

Maybe the healer wiped the party to start the votekick since you can't do that while in combat.
