wait how is that even possible? They would run to the guy who faced pull and that's it. Unless your friend attacked them he would have 0 aggro. They would ignore him and reset the moment the guy who face pulled ran too far. Also don't all gatherers have stealth?I dragged a friend back into the game earlier after I heard about the free login campaign. We've never played together but he played before I did and he used to try to get me into the game.
It should've been great but before I could get home from classes so that we could play together someone griefed him while out was out gathering by dragging a bunch of mobs onto him to kill him as he was collecting.
We messed around later but he hasn't been logging in any time that I'm not logged in. He says the community reminds him of WoW and he's sad to see the game go this way.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
Aoes exist? Even if you're stealthed if any aoe drops where you're standing, then it still hits you. You basically drag the mobs right to where the other person is and sit on them, waiting for the aoes to drop.
People have been doing this for ages, but it's supposedly highly reportable. It happens enough that people have a term for it, "MPK" or Monster-Player-Kill/Mob-Player-Kill. People tend to target other players that they think are botting with this normally, because they don't think they'll be punished.

Can't control other people, unfortunately. If something like that will make your friend stop playing, only recommendation I have is to report it and grow a thicker skin. You'll find stuff like this in any game that involves other people.Aoes exist? Even if you're stealthed if any aoe drops where you're standing, then it still hits you. Well according to him the FFXIV community wasn't ever like this. He swears the community is so much worse than it used to be a few years ago, hence why he doesn't want to play that much anymore.
It's different for me, because I guess the game was just like this when I started, so I'm used to it? But for him it's like coming home but the entire building is on fire.
Player
I've been playing this game for like 6 years, and while it's true that the players on this game can be more toxic than the community makes it out to be, it's also a lot better than any other MMO I've played.
I think this is more of a negative bias. You remember all the bad events but none of the good interactions.
Although maybe the way you interact with people tend to push you into more confrontative situations.
Does a positive bias exist? Where people only want to consider good interactions? Which is the other side of the coin. Which is why i feel like this game suffers from toxic positivity, because people only want to see the good, and anything else doesnt count
Ive dealt with wayyyyyyyyyyyyy worse communities, this one isn't the worst by far. Its not a awful community, but is rather sensitive and a degree of disingenuous. During my WoW days, i enjoyed the community for that genuine feeling i got, just being a player in a video game, just being myself and making a friends group with people i get along well with.
Here, it feels like people are trying to role-play who they see themselves as, to RPers in a bubble its fine. But to myself who's more RP-lite, and rather make friends with the player rather the the idea of who they imagine themselves to be, it feels hollow to me.
I wanna make friends with humans with thoughts and opinions and feelings, not peoples Mary Sue characters that have 1 personality trait. I want depth.
(But then again the most social aspect of the game leans towards to RP crowd)

Negative bias is an actual adaption humans have. We are far more likely to remember negative interactions because it helped us survive. "last time I walked on those rocks it hurt a lot" is far more important to our immediate survival than "walking on the grass feels nice" and "The cave on the side of the lake has a bear that ate Thag in it" is VERY important to remember.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
And there is some truth to that. But does that make my experience any less valid?Negative bias is an actual adaption humans have. "On a distance island, far away from civilization.."
