We are far more likely to remember negative interactions because it helped us survive. "last time I walked on those rocks it hurt a lot" is far more important to our immediate survival than "walking on the grass feels nice" and "The cave on the side of the lake has a bear that ate Thag in it" is VERY important to remember.
