When did i say the devs or the game is that bad? Im saying its heading down that road with the way the community is with its way of handling criticism. I've already laid out my opinions on this expansion in terms of quality though plenty of times unfortunately theres no real mmo alternatives atm so 14 is the best one in that regard even if i and many others have grievances with it from time to time.This is like something another poster said in this very thread of people just giving general criticism or expressing concerns and people's retort is just saying "go play another game" lol

Tbh idek who the other options were for these. I dont watch these award things cuz a lot of them seemed to be rigged but it isnt too much of a surprise 14 won. The community is huge.

Just found out that FFXIV just won the 2021 Golden Joystick award for Best Game Community (and the Still Playing award). Make of that what you will.

There's nothing really surprising about FFXIV taking awards that are based on community voting tbh. This games community is undeniably rabid about promoting it's game, to the point that people in communities for totally unrelated games frequently complain about how spammy and annoying FFXIV players are on social media. Content creators for other games get harassed constantly about trying FFXIV, to the point that some of them have made public statements amounting to "please leave me alone".

I am absolutely disgusted, and I hate this concept of people wanting to talk, be social and make friends one minute but without warning having done nothing people suddenly refuse to speak. It's flat out hypocritical and disingenuous.

You can and in my opinion, you should refuse to speak and walk away if you realize that a starting friendship is not working out... Just like in real life. If you get to know people, they are friendly to you at the initial meeting, then you get to know each other and you might not be friends at the end. There are discussions that will make your realize: "oh well, maybe we are just not very compatible as people". ATM There are many players in the game, if someone is not going to be your friend, then I would just move on and find another group. It happens unfortunately.

Being open and friendly does not mean that people are obliged to instantly become your BFFs...

Also, I think many creators have already shined the reality of the fact that THERE ARE bad apples. (Even Zepla made a vid where she read comments of people stalking each other and being disgusting and so on). I think most FF players don't think that FFXIV community is perfect, but the vast majority is pretty chill and friendly. Also this in comparison to other online games...


I understand what you mean. That some people use the new rules as a weapon for being snowflakes. But I have not met many people like that, thank god. And the ones I met I just blacklisted. I really don't want to spend 30 minutes explaining to someone that saying for a typed msg "sounded mean the way you typed it" when it literally cannot "sound" in any way as it is a written text... Some people just misunderstand things by the text chat and get upset cause they think a msg had a tone, that in reality was not the intention of the original player. I have seen this even at work, when people misunderstand "tone of the msg". It's pretty normal.

Also, considering how many people play this game, it is inevitable to have goods but bads too. It's like saying US has only FAT people just because the avg weight is above world normals... not everyone is fat. Or just because some people say US people are stupid, of course no one thinks everyone is stupid. I said two US example and sorry for that... but that was the easiest for me to bring up.

Crystal's community is pretty.... something, and this is coming from someone who had a main on Crystal until just recently when I switched to Aether. It can be nice on the surface but if you get some people to open up about their experiences with people who aren't commonly out and about, it can be just basically a big yikes. Then again, that could be said about any MMO community though.

People meme on Balmung but Crystal is pretty culty especially their crafting/gathering community.

If you seriously think there is an MMO with NO toxicity in it, you're delusional. You need to learn to recognize the toxin, then avoid. If you meet friends, and can talk with them with no toxicity to be seen, good for you. I experience this in Jenova's Bento FC, and it is the best FC I've ever been in, but its not like I don't see toxin. I see it, and I make a point to not speak up, or to avoid altogether. If it doesn't obstruct gameplay, then there is no reason for me to care.

I know I've seen content creator's now playing, picking on other content creators to try FFXIV more than anything else.

i’m not so blind by 14’s success as to think it’s purely because it has no faults.

It's not about having no fault. It's about people wanting different things, and some people seem to want to ignore that. What some may consider a fault may not be universally thought of as such even if there may be "plenty" of voice speaking out against it.

Pretty ironic for a game that tell story about how being tempered is a bad thing, yet the community act like they're tempered by ffxiv and yoshi-p XD

From the (very overused, unfunny, and annoying) "have you tried..." jokes, to white knighting. It's tiring. Unless your complain is the big one like glamour plates and housing etc., more often than not people will tell you to just suck it up.

Well tbh I actually have no problem with people being toxic, since as many others has pointed out, no community is completely toxic-free, but the way this community pretend to be the best community is very eye-rolling. There's a reason GCBTW meme exist.
