I tend to be standoffish and overly sarcastic, and yet I've never run into these passive-aggressive rude people that everyone complains about, or gotten a warning about it. How odd.

Consider yourself lucky. Dime a dozen for me. I either ignore it or choose to engage if it bothers my itch any. Call me aggressively passive - which is a definition that doesn't exist but if it did, I assume it'd be someone who doesn't put up with garbage but doesn't go out of their way to be an insulting jerk about it.

Can't control how other people act, especially online. If it bothers you enough to actually affect you mentally, report it. Otherwise, best to grow a thick skin and continue on your way.

Everybody knows this community doesn't handle criticism of any kind well, the community tends to try to shut criticism down and silence it.

Ive had people report me for messaging them, not because I broke any ingame rules, but because they took offense to what i said. And they cant get you suspended for not breaking ToS.....So why not try to make up a spurious reason, like "you messaged me and i consider that harassment, reported!"


I do think FF14 does suffer from a toxic positivity problem, where the toxicity is hidden under the veneer of welcoming and acceptance....As long as you don't disagree....

That's WoW. It was always amusing when their CSRs would reply "there's no rule against being a jerk" to Support forum posts.

Here there can be penalties for being a jerk depending on just what was done. Go give the Prohibited Activities policy a read.

But its not a jerk move to report somebody to report somebody, not for breaking ToS. But because they said something you didnt like?

Isnt that on the opposite end of the toxicity spectrum?

I dunno why people base views on entire communities on individual negative experiences.
No, not quite literally every single person in FFXIV is open and friendly but if you compare it to other games it's fairly commonly understood and accepted that FFXIV is more open and friendly.
There's a lot of unwritten rules like waiting for people to finish a cutscene that sorta hint at this too, yesterday night I had to rush to tomestone cap since I had neglected it last week and it was five in the morning and I dunno why but both in the Expert dungeons and the trial I did for the last cap had people in every party who were doing it for the first time and watched the cutscenes.
Five in the morning or not we still waited.
Do you think you'd see this in most other games?

I don't think it's toxic at all to report someone who's blatantly being an asshole.
When you don't and you just accept it is when you get garbage MOBA and FPS game situations which are downright unplayable.

I play Mount and Blade too and I can't even login to a server without people having VERY heated arguments and '' debates '' about Jews, Muslims, black people ( usually referred to with the slur ), politics, weirdly racially charged history etc.
Every, single, time.
EVERY server.

Expecting a base level of respect and just decent behaviour from people isn't that much to ask for, I am not saying I am perfect and that you should get perma-banned for something really tame.
But I think reporting is fine and if it becomes a common occurance that the GM's keep seeing your name then perhaps there is an actual problem there that needs to be solved.
