    Making FFXIV Outfits IRL

I wanted to start making some of the FFXIV Outfits in real life to sell on Etsy but wasn't sure what the legal repercussions would be or who to talk to about doing so. Does anybody know if there's someone I could email about this or what the rules would be concerning it?

I would personally say if there were any hard and fast rules regarding this, cosplays would be erased out of existence. Besides it would be too big a deal to copyright something like, say, a dress or a bikini just because it's in a certain colour and with frills in such and such places. So in my admittedly ignorant opinion you will be okay. Now OFC if you were reselling merchandise like the Perfect Alexander T-shirt that would land you in hotter water, perhaps...

Legally speaking, fans are permitted to use materials related to FFXIV as described in the Material Usage License.

Now, as for selling stuff on Etsy? Even with SE having the MUL, your problem there is a sale would be involved. As with any franchise and quite a lot of things on Etsy, it's a violation of copyright/IP rights/etc etc. But in practice, most people are going to be too small for SE (or whichever company's IP they're making unauthorized fan merchandise off of) to care or do anything about, but there's always a chance that one day you might get that C&D. And if someone reports it, SE's legally obligated to take action as failing to enforce trademarks can lead to losing them.
