Place retainers in apartments

Can this be done? Cause the scroll says it can only be in gardens/outside of houses. And internet search says the same thing.

But that makes no sense. Why would they not want us being able to place retainers in apartments?

We cannot place a retainer inside a house/apartment like we do in the yard of a house plot. I don't know if an explanation was ever given for whether it was an intentional design choice or some sort of "spaghetti code" problem that existed at the time the permit was added to the game.

Considering it's possible to have mannequins "selling" gear listed on a retainer inside of a house or apartment now, it seems strange they haven't taken it further so we can have the permits inside now as well.

Can i at least bring a suggestion where i can have 1 pet of choice, wandering around my house. Even when im offline? DCUO has a system where they have housing pets that wander around the house.

YoshiP has said many times that pet/minion pathing inside of housing would be a problem because they couldn't be programmed not to walk through objects so it's not something they're interested in adding.

Part of the idea behind Island Sanctuary is to give players a place to let their minions walk around.

This will sadly, never occur.*

* - based on how the Glamour Dresser (and by extension, the Armoire) works on the behind-the-screen setting. It would cause unnecessary amounts of server-burden and lag that could make things almost unplayable for older or slower machines.

Think about it. Let's use a rather average example for this.

You're a member of an FC about.. 40 or so large. All relatively active and all with an extensive dresser list, as you all enjoy the fashion endgame.
- Your FC lead puts down a Glamour Dresser in your FC house.
-That Glamour Dresser now needs to load all 400 items, including what items, what type, if they are dyed and all of your plates. Per person.
- 400 x 40. 16,000 things it needs to process every time someone enters the FC house. Reloading it when someone new enters said house.

On single-instances, it doesn't sound that bad. But then give every home-owner a Glamour Dresser with a similarly full dresser and you can see it starts to add up rather quickly. (~4,000 houses in total. ~25% of all houses being FC houses, etc.)

There's really only one potential way around it and that's locking the Load to only YOUR stuff, rather than everyones. But it would still require a lot of re-tooling under the metaphorical hood.

Edit: The Houses & 25% thing is an estimated ballpark. Not an exact number. But I hope you get the point.

The devs have tried to get this to work, but say it just breeds issues. The games spaghetti code is already a nightmare when it comes to glamours. That process is super delicate and basically anything else happening while the game is trying to read/write glamour data really screws up what data the game is trying to read/write (it's why we can only apply plates when in areas where we can't get into combat, or change glamours with a macro).

For a hosing glamour dresser, one of the things they mentioned was that if someone was using the glamour dresser, and another player put it in storage or even moved it... things get crazy.

But also, the glamour dresser even just being used by two people gets a lot of streams crossed.

I think one of the other housing specific difficulties they mentioned was that someone messing with the dresser while someone else is adjusting songs in the orchestrion interfere with what data is being written to glamour plates.

FF14 is running on a costumed Luminious Engine and I highly doubt this engine is capable to make glamour dresser as a place/removable item that player can freely change.

I hope they add at least an apartment sized internal housing area to Island Sanctuaries so we could have a glamour dresser in them. Since I visit Gridania at least once per session to mess with my squadron, going to the inn isn't a burden at all, but it would be nice to be able to mess with glamours on my island. If that ends up not being a thing, no harm, no foul.

There’s a glamour dresser in the squadron command center! All they need to do is add a retainer there and it’d be golden ;-;
