Dx11 Crashes persist, even on brand new build

Recently I was playing on a pretty decent rig with a Ryzen 5600x and a 6800XT. Performance is great, but would experience hard computer crashes basically to the point where I would have to hard reset my computer. I would also intermittently get DX11 crashes. FFXIV is the ONLY game that I have ever had issues with out of about 100+ games on this PC.

I ended up making a completely new build. 1200W PSU, 5800x, 6900xt but the same issue continues to occur. I keep getting this issue with the new build where the computer completely crashes out while playing FFXIV to a black screen where the computer attempts to reboot but cant, and its showing the exact same error in the event viewer. Again, have the same games installed on the new computer, same error message in event viewer.

Appreciate any help i can get, I'm running out of patience. This all seemed to start right around when 5.2-5.3 came out, as I had never had any problems in the past 6-7 years I've played the game.

Hi, do you have overclocked your system? If so then do not overclock. And i see you have an AMD GPU. In this case it is important that you disable Enhanced Sync. This setting can cause such issues like black screens. It is also important that you have the newest motherboard BIOS/UEFI installed.

However, I managed to find a kind of "fix". For me worked following: Deleting files of the expansion, where the crash's occurred. Then checking and redownloading files of this expansion again via launcher somewhat solves the crash.
Meanwhile, the same problem, which was solved in one expansion (Stormblood in my case) appeared again in the different place of later expansion (Shadowbringers). I repeated the process again and the crash disappeared in Shadowbringers, but when I tried to go to the first alliance raid of Stormblood, it crashed again.

Interestingly enough, redownloading the whole game didn't solve the problem in my case, only redownloading files of the different expansions.

From my point of view this crash doesn't mean that your hardware is the source, but the game files itself. I guess they screwed up their file integration check or there's probably a conflict between assets of different expansions. Another proof of that is amount of threds about similar issues (dx11/dx9/no error crashes) for the last month.

Upd: Deleting and redownloading the expansion files after every crash helps temporarily - crash will occur in different cutscene or at different place.

Throttling, up to date BIOS and hardware drivers, updated monitor firmware, etc has really ruled out my hardware. Hoping I can get some clarification or a fix soon, it’s pretty frustrating

Out of the countless and long-winded fixes that've been suggested this has been the only one that's ever worked for me historically. Maybe the crashes do just get moved around every time you redownload an expansion but eventually they'll get moved to a cutscene that you're never going to watch again. I fixed my Shadowbringers and most of Stormblood by consistently redownloading the ex2 and ex3 folders. The only thing I've never been able to fix is Wreath of Snakes which is annoying since the last dog I need comes from there. If these crashes were purely a hardware problem then redownloading shouldn't fix them at all, it's more like certain hardware has the ability to deal with the glitchy game files that were delivered to us. We can only hope that more aren't delivered in Endwalker too.

So, still crashing...things I have tried...

No overclocks

Re-seated GPU

Flashed BIOS, used both older stable and newer version of BIOS with no success

Game mode both ON and OFF

Vsync both ON and OFF

Messed with power plan management, have tried all three preset plus custom

Rolled back AMD drivers to a previous version 21.6.1 and have tried 21.8.1 with no success

Radeon software, have
- turned both global graphic settings and FFXIV game specific settings Enhanced Sync on and off
- turned on and off Radeon Chill with throttling FPS to both limit at 165 (monitor 165hz) and unrestricted
- on and off Anti lag
- on and off image sharpening
- all three: Disable/Enhance/Override anti aliasing
- Tesselation AMD optimized/Off/On
- 10 Bit pixel format on/off
- Freesync Premium on/off in display settings
- Have physically turned off/on Freesync on the monitor as well as ELMB modes

When gaming CPU at 45-50c, GPU at 46-47c.

Have unhooked my second monitor as well to see if there was some sort of conflict with having the second monitor up, but no dice still crashing.

Still no luck, same Kernel Power 41 event. Before anyone says test the power supply, already did. This is a fresh 1200W PSU, ASUS Thor. Multimeter with no problems, has been load tested and it is FLAWLESS. I'm totally at a loss as to where to go from here, but like I said...this is the ONLY game that does this. Feeling like this is more and more FFXIV. And for the record, this is also happening on a buddys system that uses a Ryzen 5800x and 3070 FE so dont think this is AMD isolated.

Want to chime in on this since I have the exact same problems - Ryzen 5950x + RTX 3080. Used Limsa as a testing basis and my entire PC would just crash and blackscreen, with no successful attempt at a reboot. This was me playing at high settings (I run this game in 4k) so on my next attempt I lowered the custom graphic settings to "Standard (Desktop)" and I was able to game a good couple hours until a crash occurred so could it be a performance strain on the hardware? One thing in common here is that we all run on a Zen 3 CPU, so perhaps an adjustment to that could be the fix? For the adjustments that could work - undervolting, lowering clock speeds, keeping CPU below certain temps, etc

My build is completely new as well, just built it this week as a matter of fact. All new parts so I'm just as stumped on what to do. Every other game is running fine, it's just FFXIV in particular that's running into these crashes.

Okay, so; I'm going to post my experiences here because I believe it will help save other people time and money, as well as considerable stress in the troubleshooting process.

I've had issues with the fatal error DX1000002 crashes for almost a year, since upgrading to a new PC; In that time I have thrown no shortage of time and money into solving the issue, I have upgraded my CPU from a 3700x to a 5900x, I've upgraded the memory replacing all DIMMs completely, I've RMA'd an RX6800 which was replaced by a different model of the same GPU and I've replaced the PSU with a higher rated unit. The only major components of my PC that haven't been swapped out are my computer are the motherboard and SSD yet the crashing issue has persisted through ALL those upgrades. I have tried reinstalling the computer, I have disabled discord, steam and AMD overlays, I have tried different bios versions and countless different driver versions; nothing solves the problem.

I do not believe this is an issue with faulty or overheating hardware, I believe it is a problem with FFXIV itself, most likely relating to its support of either AMD Ryzen CPUs, RDNA GPUs or a combination of the two. I do not think there is anything we as users can do to resolve this problem ourselves and I doubt we'll see any improvement until SE acknowledges and commits to fixing this problem.

If you're not experiencing issues with other software, do not let these crashes push you into believing there is an issue with your machine, otherwise you'll just end up spending a bunch of time and money chasing down these phantom crashes and at the end of the day, they'll still continue to be a problem.

I can ONLY hope that endwalker fixes some underlying issue that is the root cause of these problems, it would be wise for SE to invest some time into solving this issue as with AMD increasing in market share the bad publicity and frustration caused by these issues will only continue to grow as more and more people come across them.

I ended up just swapping out my AMD motherboard and CPU and swapped over to intel. Lo and behold, the crashes were gone. Prior to this I made attempts at fresh installing OS on my new SSD, reinstalling the game and resetting the settings. I can't find it in myself to bank on SE fixing this issue with AMD by Endwalker seeing how this is something that's been quite a prevalent issue over time. If they do, all the merrier - it just feels more foolproof for me to stick with intel for FFXIV moving forward.

Spec-wise, I can only hope intel's upcoming 12th and eventual 13th gen can really contest in the market against AMD's biggest hitters. Swapped from a Ryzen 5950x to an Intel 10850K and performance more or less the same (for FFXIV) so I'm absolutely content with this.
