This is one of the features I like about Vista and 7 is independent volume sliders for the applications.It was posted before, but in case you overlooked it: If you're using Windows 7 or Vista, you can turn off the sounds completely. Just click on the sound icon in your system tray, then click on "Mixer" and you'll get a list of all currently running applications with sound output. Drag XIV all the way down and the game will be dead silent.
I'm also glad that SE has acknowledged this. UI improvements such as this will assist the game in the long-run (or at minimum, for future audio).
