I really don't want chat bubble but understand some people do, too much screen clutter. As long as we can turn them off I have np with it being for those who want it. I just don't see the need for them. I really don't want to be forced to read some random conversations.

if chat bubbles were implemented i would immediately turn them off. anything VOIP in the game would be yet another thing the devs would have to work on and maintain, why make them do it when discord exists?

Chat bubbles are an absolute necessity for me to enjoy socializing in this game, and not having them cripples my ability to enjoy interacting with other people. (So I just avoid people unless I have to interact with them. Which is a problem, because I like mmos BECAUSE of all the people I get to meet) FFXIV is an incredibly lonely game for me.

I have vision problems, especially when it comes to repeating, small details all grouped in one place in a very organized way. Which means I cannot read the chatbox at a glance. So, I have to focus all of my attention on it if I want to communicate with others, which turns the game into an IRC chatroom, removing the point of the entirety of the gameworld for me. Completely destroying my immersion. (And that's not even considering the outright COMBATIVE chatscroll this game has)

It would be SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE for me if the chat could be physically read near its point of context (aka, chat bubbles) so that I can interact with the CHARACTERS I'm speaking with instead of some name in the bottom corner of my screen.

There is an ILLICIT PROGRAM -DO NOT INSTALL- that some naughty fellows use. I've held strong against the allure of proper social accessibility because you have to put your login info into, and I'm absolutely not comfortable with that. But as the days go on, I'll admit, it gets harder and harder to resist. But those that I know that DO use it (you, the reader, shouldn't however, because login info, etc) have had absolutely zero problems with resource usage, or visibility in populated places (how many people in limsa are using /say anyway?). I've seen screenshots and videos of it being used, and none of the speech bubbles look out of place either.

I say, if SE can implement the sound visualizer for those who are hearing impaired, why can't they add a common mmo social feature for those of us who were born with crappy eyes?
Like seriously, this is at the top of my list for "things I want SE to implement that would have a positive impact on my gameplay experience"

It'd definitely be a nightmare for crowded places like Limsa or during hunts, but literally anywhere else, it wouldn't really be as bad as people make it out to be, specially when option is the key word in the whole argument.
I was excited to RP in this game, but just as you describe, not having the conversation happen in the actual gamespace just tore me out of it. Pair that with the insane chatscroll that happens during events, and I just gave up.
If I wanted to irc rp, I would be doing that.

As for voip, I know yoshiP said he didn't want it in the game, which I kind of get, but it would be nice for console players to not have to use their phone to talk to their fcmates.
Probably would be a nightmare to moderate though.

On the other hand, Discord has killed any enthusiasm to implement voip. The former does everything better and if it doesn't, it will be most certainly on the way to do it.
Would be nice to have, sure. But then again everyone has a mobile and can DL Discord. That's what I do when I'm not playing on my PC. Works perfectly fine.

What you could do is increase the font size in the settings, increase the size of the chatbox overall and drag it somewhere easier to see. You can separate the tabs into multiple chatboxes too and configure it so that you only see the say chat in one of them.

Hell no to in-game voice. I'm here to play a game not deal with people blabbing in my ear.

Chat bubble is a nice Idea on paper but not always in reality Imo, i can't imagine how limsa would look like with it lmao. As long as it's something optional i wouldn't care tbh, and i don't even see the point of using it besides roleplaying (and i don't do that).

In game voice might not be a great Idea because ppl will pressure others into using it, it's practical in pf for example and easy ask voice chat as a requirement. And if it's optional (witch is the only way Imo), communication between players who like to use VC and thoose who don't won't get any better. We will just end with a bigger seperation between two types of players.
And there's the manadgment of ppl behavior in game, not everyone will be nice, polite or not trying to be a troll for fun without going too far. So voice chat will require as mutch attention as the written chat we have now. It's just more problems for something that another company can take care of for free.

If it's a client-side toggle then sure no problem. This is definitely a situation where people are more used to one thing than the other so I can understand the desire for it, XI being my first MMO I honestly thought for a long time it was standard for all dialogue to go into the chat window so I'm very used to and able to read the box in the corner and still play without missing a thing. I imagine it's the same sort of thing for people who either used chat bubbles from the very start or played a majority of games that used them.
