Materia question

I'm following a crafting level up guide and it says to fit lvl 63 gear with a craftsman cunning V materia. It says it's supposed to give me +6 cp but it only gives me +1 cp. I'm new to the whole materia thing, what I'm doing wrong?

Gear has statcaps to consider when applying materia. Make sure to check if stats are displayed red to indicate stat overcap.

In case of Crafting gear, different pieces have different stat caps, so beware.

There seems to be two likely issues. 1) you're using a lower tier materia by mistake 2)the gear you're melding the materia on is almost at its stat cap for CP so can only benefit from 1 point of bonus CP

Ok, so I checked, ya the gear I was trying to put a materia in was 6/7 CP and the +6 cp materia wasn't fitting for the full amount. Thank you for the responses!
