Hi there,
Sprout here, just got to Heavensward and got the skill Goring Blade.
This is better than Rage of Halone yes? In every way? More damage, more DoT. Same recast time?
Can I just take Rage of Halone of my bars forever?

Whilst Goring Blade does replace Rage of Halone on levels 54-59, once you hit 60, you will get Royal Authority which will replace Rage of Halone and make it worth using between Goring Blade.
Thanks, I was literally coming here to ask this same question and saw this thread. Good timing Yvresse!
Mikey_R,
Are you saying to use Royal Authority between Goring Blade or use Rage of Halone?
From level 54 - 59, you'll finish every combo with Goring Blade (except maybe your first 2 after Fight or Flight? don't have time to run those numbers). After you've completed your level 60 job quest and upgraded Rage of Halone to Royal Authority, you do 2 Royal Authority combos between each Goring Blade combo.
At level 60 royal authority is a straight upgrade to rage of halone, so until you learn Holy Spirit your rotation will be goring blade combo > royal authority combo x2 and repeat. Once you get Holy Spirit (and requiescat) your rotation will be goring blade > royal authority x2 > goring blade > Holy Spirit x5 then start again at your goring blade combo.
Later on you’ll get access to atonement, which replaces your second royal authority combo, and at 80 you’ll get confiteor, which will replace the final Holy Spirit in your requiescat phase.
Your final rotation at 80 will look like (fight or flight phase) goring blade combo > royal authority combo > atonement x3 > goring blade combo > (requiescat) holy spirit x4 > confiteor > (downtime phase) goring blade combo > royal authority combo > atonement x3 then your fight or flight should be up for the following goring blade which will repeat from the start.
By the looks of things with the new skills pld will be getting by 90 that goring blade after the requiescat phase will be replaced with a new 3-hit combo they’re getting, but the following royal authority combo and atonement will remain the same.
Rage of Halone vs Goring Blade is one of those old leftover Clunky Bad Skill/Trait progression problems that never got fixed or maybe it was forgotten.
So you get Rage of Halone at lvl 26 and use it for a while, then lvl 54 you get Goring Blade which not only hits harder in a combo but applies a nice DOT.
And Rage of Halone is useless... until lvl 60 when it gets Trait upgraded to Royal Authority and hits hard enough to justify using it over Goring Blade whenever you're not applying the DOT. Yeah... so why wasn't the damn Royal Authority upgrade applied sooner like level 50, 52, 54? Who knows...
Because Royal Authority was the level 60 capstone of HW and they don't really like messing with or rearranging Job Quest abilities unless they really need to.And Rage of Halone is useless... until lvl 60 when it gets Trait upgraded to Royal Authority and hits hard enough to justify using it over Goring Blade whenever you're not applying the DOT. I would mention the advanced tactics of Paladins rotation so eh, I'll let it go. It's 16 seconds Pre-pull Fof currently for the new rota in EW far as we know. Simple words? Pop Fight or Flight at 16 seconds before pulling during a 20 second countdown, Fight or Flight will be back after 2 Atonements, and Reqs is back after going through a FoF window.

This is old, but not terribly old, and as the info is outdated as of 6.0, there is a correction.
Rage of Halone does now do more damage than Goring Blade on the initial hit, and thus you would no longer use Goring Blade over Rage of Halone.
