Sorry ANOTHER Retainer question

When paying for the extra retainers, does that automatically come out each month? Because MY extra retainers are greyed out and I can't get in right to pay for them, as my monthly sub is in transaction.

Normally it is charged at the same time as your game subscription (both are charged to my credit card in a single transaction). The exception would be when you first set up the paid retainer service. Then there's a prorated charge to cover the time until the next subscription billing period.

Did you cancel the retainer subscription at some point and you're now trying to reactivate them? I can't figure out why you wouldn't be able to access them if you can get into the game (unless you're benefiting from some sort of free log-in period).

if you just pay the sub fee, you can get into the game but not the extra retainers.

If you go through steam the entire process is a bit... wonky.. to say the least

The OP didn't specify Steam. If that's his problem, I have no info to share.

I always recommend against using Steam unless it's the only way to purchase a game. It can be a nightmare getting things fixed when something goes wrong.

If you were set up on a re-occurring subscription with the retainer fee added, then changed payment method from what the subscription was using, it can "reset" your additional retainer fees or other additional premium options.
As in, for example:

1. You were set up using a credit card to pay monthly.
2. Someone gave to a Time Card, so you added that to your account.
3. The Time Card adds to but also overrides the re-occurring subscription, meaning the time from the card is added to your subscription, but once that time has expired (along with whatever was left on the re-occurring subscription cycle), your account then lapses requiring the re-occurring subscription to be re-enabled which will sometime happen on it's own.
4. However, the additional fees, like for extra retainers, must also be re-enabled again manually.
