I rarely give comms to the healer because they usually get it without even trying. I've played all 3 healing jobs to 80 and honestly its the easiest way to get comms... I recently levelled a Pally all the way to 80 and I barely got any - tanking is often an underestimated job.

Now? I either give comms to either the tank or DPS, depending who I thought really made a difference.

Square Enix have extorted money from Viera and Hrothgar's limitations, but from the outside looking in it seems barely any of that money is invested back into the limited races. How much money have they made from players
fantasia'ing to and from the limited races? We want more race-exclusive hair.
We want them improved, and we want it done within a reasonable time.

I usually give DPS the comm because tank and heals always gets it. Also, sometimes theyre the last person to leave, so they get it by default.

I honestly don't think this is true anymore, sure back in Heavensward I used to bathe in comms on a tank, now I rarely get them even if I'm kicking ass and taking names.

As for who I comm it does depend on what job I'm on, if I'm the tank then I generally give it to the healer if they seem to know what they are doing, if I'm on a DPS I will look to the other DPS, it's kind of up to them to lose it and sadly, many do. Just put some effort in and look alive and they probably get it from me.

There are always exceptions, but I don't usually commend tanks and healers, I try to commend the DPS - especially if they are sprouts - choosing who I think did the best job.

And that's not commending the highest DPS either, it can be their positioning, how they deal with mechanics, if they are friendly in chat, if they put in the effort, and so on.

For me it's about encouraging good gameplay and gently guiding people into those good habits, rather than rewarding a geared level 80 for a smooth run.

If they're a BLM they auto get comms because it's my favorite

For real though, when I give out comms to DPS, there's usually a reason.
Tanks/healers almost always get comms, so I try to find good reasons to give dps comms.
I run dungeons a ton, so I know how fast a run typically can go of most dungeons, and if it's not very fast it's either
A: the tank didn't pull very much or
B: DPS are big sucko and don't use aoe/aren't up to gear
If it's the former, there's almost no way in hell that I'm going to give the tank the comm, especially if it isn't their first time or aren't a new tank.

Giving comms to healer is different, it's easy to tell if they're doing a bad job. But it's also very difficult to tell if they're doing a good job too, unless you're looking for it.
If they're a godlike healer, they're probably going to get comms, but those are hard to find because you either get a clean run where nothing goes wrong, or a really bad healer.
Because of that, I typically don't give healer comms unless I've seen them do something.

DPS typically get my coms if I'm running dungeons with my friend who uses an... abacus to calculate damage and they're top DPS.
However, if either DPS fails to get top damage, I fall to either Tank/Healer because then you have a DPS that is big sucko.

Although, if there are no real good identifiers, BLM will 100% get my comm if there's one there

If I'm on my dps i usually give a fellow dps a comm because usually dps don't get comm. If I'm on my tank I'll give the healer a com if I'm my healer then tank gets it. I tend to be favorable to fellow blm, drg, sam. smn etc If the group is a complete fail no one gets a comm.

If I am tank, I give com to healer.
If I am healer, I give com to tank.
If I am dps, I give com to other dps.

If we all did this, everyone would get 1 com a run.

I don't, since I only play NIN, and I have no idea what the others are doing from what appears on screen.
    Plus, I can't tell who's doing what.
