Depends. I'll give DPS comms semi-often. I used to give them out more often. If the healer does an adequate job healing me, with no real mistakes in dungeons (I usually play tank in these), I'll typically give it to them nowadays. If the healer wasn't so good, I'll more often than not give it to a DPS who I think performed adequately. If nobody did, I have stopped giving out commendations every run, because I can't really justify doing it. However, I will give sprouts commendations sometimes, regardless of class. It really just depends. I'll give out my commendation to a DPS in trials or raids, or a tank, more often than a healer, unless the healer did an outstanding job.

If I'm playing DPS myself I'll usually comm somebody for doing more DPS than me. Other than that I'll comm a dancer for partnering me.

If I'm not DPS, I'll comm whoever did the most damage or whoever is left by the time I comm

Generally, if I don't regret giving them my dance partner status, they get the comm.

As a DPS main myself, I'll admit that the other DPS is usually my default comm target regardless. Unless the tank or healer goes above and beyond, or is a sprout on their first time, I'll almost always go DPS for my commendation.

If there's another male roe, then they get my comm regardless of what role they are or how well they played. We broes have to stick together.
If there are no broes, then I just give to a scantily-clad guy, whoever has the most eye-catching name, or the sprout who died 1000 times but was trying their hardest.

I usually run as the healer or the tank, and I don't commend the support roles until they really stood out. My criteria for which dps gets the comm goes as follows:

    * Performed well in the instance. If they are new, they listened to direction or were quick to learn.

    * Threw a funny Bloodborne reference at me. Points are deducted if they throw a "It would please me to use the doll." No. Bad. This stopped being funny five years ago. You actually get anti-comms for this (I will find a way to make you die).

    * Were generally pleasant and funny. Talking in a dungeon is actually a huge plus for me, and if you have a good attitude that really stands out to me. I don't even care if you ate every AOE in sight, if you are just a fun person to have in the party then you get that headpat.

As long as other DPS performs above average level then they'll get my Comm.

Now what is above average ?
Do proper Rotations both ST and AoE , no need to optimize every ogcds, that would be asking too much.
Do positional right as melee, stay within Range as Ranged for buffs or healing circle.

That's it, you're already above average player.

Seems I am off the list for receiving commendations then.. Seriously, I feel like this is a lot of people's criteria for a commendation actually.

There are always exceptions, but I don't usually commend tanks and healers, I try to commend the DPS - especially if they are sprouts - choosing who I think did the best job.

And that's not commending the highest DPS either, it can be their positioning, how they deal with mechanics, if they are friendly in chat, if they put in the effort, and so on.

For me it's about encouraging good gameplay and gently guiding people into those good habits, rather than rewarding a geared level 80 for a smooth run.
