As a DPS I have an idea of if the speed the fights should take with other good players from doing it with guild/friends. If we are going the same speed or even slightly slower the other DPS gets it.
If it's a typical run where things take a decent amount longer than what it should with good players? Nobody gets a comm.
Basically, if the other DPS can pull their weight they get a comm. If they don't, nobody gets a comm because tanks and healers get them thrown at them like pennies in a wishing well.
did i see the DPS mess up mechanics? no? Did things die in a reasonable timeframe? yes? okay, they get a comm
Healing is braindead in most content - smash 1 button, tack on an extra one every 30 secs, and wait till the tank is at like 25% health so you can heal them to full in 3-4 GCDs. Dont even need to use most of your kit.
Tanking is as easy as “stand in this spot, do your 123, and dodge aoes. and keep standing in this spot. preferrably north.”
DPSing requires more than just executing your base rotation to fulfill its job requirements. Therefore, DPS typically end with at least one comm if they party with me![]()
They add me as a friend!
I recommend random people.
If it's a lowbie dungeon, and the unsynced player didn't do very silly stuff (which rarely happens), then they'll get one, too.
Today I commended a BRD who was cycling songs nicely and justified my AST card buffs.
Mortal Fist
I have to admit, I'm not the best at commending DPS since I'm usually occupied enough just focusing on my own role, and the better they are at doing their job and dodging AoEs the less noticeable they are. More often than not, it's less about how good the DPS player was and more about whether the Tank or Healer screwed up, was inattentive, or otherwise did something to tick me off. I might skew towards commending a newbie who seems to be trying hard to learn. Or just to someone who is friendly and helpful in the group chat, or otherwise trying to make the run a fun one. Heck, you can totally screw up wipe the group, but I don't hold that against you are humble about it. I would vastly prefer an imperfect run with some laughs along the way, over a well-oiled machine where no one talks and I might as well be playing with AI bots. Oh, I almost forgot: pull the end boss while a first-timer is in a cutscene and you are immediately disqualified. Sorry, not sorry.
I'm by no means a top-tier DPS, and of course I get way more comms when I play Healer -- the unfair bias is real. But by no means is getting comms when I play DPS infrequent either. I've seen people here complain about how hard it is to get comms as DPS, but they've been playing for years, and I literally play two different characters who I made just this year and my 99.9% DPS-only alt character has vastly more comms than them. I promise I'm not trying to brag, and I'm not saying I'm a better player than them. In fact, I'm betting I'm not. But folks, come on, just say hi to your dungeon group, be fun to play with, crack a joke or two, be nice to the newbies, or something! It's not a guaranteed method, but you'd be surprised how far you can roll if you just grease the wheels a little bit.
