I did get the DS version. I read that it was worked on and expanded by the original creators so it's more like what they intended from the start.
DS version is fun. The battle mechanics have a lot more depth(they let you give temporary party member's skills to later party members and stuff like that. I had a Singing Dragoon!). Might want to get started. It can be a bit challenging in spots, depending on how you play. Has a lot of nice extra story type things going for it, like thought bubbles for your on screen party leader whenever you open the menu. I can't break my nostalgia for the SNES version, so I've only done the DS version a couple of times.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
