Yoshi-P, You Have Not Lost Our Trust

I was reading through the statement concerning Endwalker's delay (https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...5ce5b1eab136ee) and the final paragraph really stood out to me:

We will continue to do our utmost to bring you the best experience not only in Endwalker but also through further updates and content that will follow, restoring your trust one step at a time.

I've seen several threads pop up talking about the gripes and disappointment people are feeling about the delay. And I've seen my own sentiment reflected by various players in different thread responses. But if the complaints have their own threads, I wanted to make one for this sentiment, too.

To Yoshida-san (and team): I know, from statements shared in various documentaries and interviews regarding 1.0's fall and the rise of ARR, that building and maintaining trust with the playerbase (especially the Legacy players that stuck by the project at its lowest) has been a guiding principle for you since you took over as Director/Producer. Its clear that it is personally very important to you, as well as to several other members of the team. Speaking for myself (and I suspect many other players), this delay has not caused us to lose trust in you or your team. Its trust you have rightfully earned through consistent effort over the last decade and it is not so easily tarnished. If anything, the circumstances of this delay are an example of your good judgement, and showcase exactly why we do trust you.

To be completely honest, hearing that so much attention was paid to the fine narrative and user experience details of this grand finale of an expac that it delayed stability QA actually has me MORE hyped. (A circumstance I didn't know was possible.) I am glad they wanted to make it perfect and allowed the time to do so, even if they missed the deadline slightly. This expac is going to be a BIG deal for all of us who have stuck with the game so far, both veterans and sprouts. I'm glad the team is treating it with the attention it needs and deserves.

Even if it still sucks that I have to wait two more weeks. lol

So yeah tl;dr -- Yoshi-P, you haven't let us down when it counts, yet; and I really don't see you starting now. You have not lost this gamer's trust. And I just wanted to make a thread to say it.

There is some extreme examples where people said that "last straw, lost trust" etc. But I don't think the general person in the community lost any trust. People are just disappointed in the delay but nothing more.

It's probably a cultral thing that got translated into the announcement post seeing being late/miss a deadline is bad in japanese culture.

I'm very disappointed but I have not lost trust in Yoshida. If he believes that extra time was needed then I believe him. The delay has ruined the launch for so many of my friends and it has affected me negatively as well. But this does not mean I have any ill will towards Yoshida. I'm disappointed that the delay had to happen, not disappointed in Yoshida making what was probably the best decision for the game. Yoshida has proven countless times that he's an excellent caretaker for the game, and this one incident isn't enough for me to think badly of him.

If anything I hold ill will towards those who made the pandemic far worse than it could have been. EW development would have been so much easier if the pandemic wasn't handled so poorly by so many people.

It's not like they have a habit of missing release dates.

It's annoying that we need to wait longer, but it's 2 weeks which isn't exactly the biggest delay ever. I think the worse part of it is how close to the release the delay was announced.

As a 1.0 and Legacy player I can say with all and complete honesty, that this hasn't broken the trust I have in Yoshi-P. If he ever pulled a repeat of what happened in 1.0 that would be the day I lost my trust in him. Until then I'm not upset with the delay. I get others are and they can be upset but, nope I still trust him. ^_^

Even those of us like me who are pissed with the delay generally aren't going far enough to say "lost trust." In fact, I can't recall seeing maybe more than a handful saying such a thing.

There is a difference between being pissed off and having lost one's faith.

Gonna add mine for what its worth. No trust lost here. Actually, the opposite, but my heart also goes out to people who wanted to take time off for the expac.

Neither side is "wrong" in my opinion, but I personally would never base vacation time around an expansion being dropped. Maybe asking for a long weekend well ahead, but that's me.

I'm just glad to see actual time and resources being allocated to clean up the lore and get us into another chapter of xiv. I feel like some of the crap the player goes through has just dragged on way too long, became less interesting the more it was dealt with, and the details unraveling as they did also made things stale and even less interesting. Thanking God here that the game is moving past this section, and into newer territory.

It's totally understandable to be upset at an unfortunate situation, and that's all this is. It's another thing entirely to not be understanding. Does it suck that it was delayed? Yeah it does suck. Is it the end of the world? No. Even for people who took time off and can't get it changed, there are other things in life to enjoy and you just weren't meant to play the game on the 19th. A grown man streamed himself in tears explaining what is happening and that he personally feels like he's failed when nothing could be farther from the truth. The way Yoshi-P and his team put everything into this game is more than enough.

I would love if he could see this thread and know that the real fans are here and we're understanding and we don't see any of this as a failure, but proof that he and all of his team truly are trying to make this game the best game they can make. That's more than most dev teams, and I know everyone here can name at least one dev team that truly failed because of their own hubris or greed or laziness and we all know that the team behind FFXIV is nothing like that.

So yeah, the situation is in an unfortunate one but it's completely understandable and I'm very excited to see what they've built for us.

Been waiting this long for 6.0 with Covid impacts added in. Couple more weeks isn't going to matter.
SE simply the best gaming company I've experienced and known a few over many years of playing.

Blizzard would brush you off, make it out to be the players fault somehow and release a subpar unfinished product after a far longer delay with every issue raised in PTR ignored.

We have it so good over here. The fact he broke down on stream doesn't only show he feels bad, it shows the immense amount of work and dedication that has likely gone into the expansion. Mental exhaustion from overwork lowers emotional tolerance and you can see it. He looks drained. We have a ton of new players and expectations have never been higher. You can see the dev team are determined to deliver their best.

Not saying the game is perfect or it's wrong to feel disappointment, but personally I'm not annoyed at all.
