Hello,
I'm consistently encountering some sort of a crash-causing error when trying to log in to my main character after the EW patch, but can log in and play with another character. I'm wondering whether this is due to something caused by the new patch, related to the ongoing server issues due to congestion, or something else. This is especially frustrating because the crash happens only when attempting to load into the game, meaning that I have to sit through the queue only to crash to desktop at the end. Help would be appreciated.
The error happens when the game is loading in. It either shuts down without notice, or displays a very short "An unexpected error has occurred" notice and generic error codes related to the .exe file of the game. This happens on both the DX11 version and the DX9 version of the exe, and the error codes change. They are all something along the lines of "ffxiv.exe+428025" (for the DX9 version) or "ffxiv_dx11.exe+6291C" (for the DX11 version) or some variant.
The error only occurs on my main character, currently located in Gangos. I have not played after the patch rolled out, and have only been attempting to play for the past couple of days (after the main release of EW). I have attempted the login over 10 times now, but the issue persists, regardless of queue times or other factors. It is hard to keep consistently attempting to log in due to the long queue times, so I'm hesitant to keep trying it with different potential fixes...
Another character I have on the same server is able to log in just fine. That character is located in one of the La Noscea areas, and the game seems totally normal when I am playing with that one. The error is related either to my other character or something in the Gangos area itself. I am unable to check if this other character has issues with other areas due to it being a very low-leveled one and not being able to access most of the content.
It should be noted that I reinstalled FFXIV into another location on my computer (an external SSD) due to space concerns before attempting to play Endwalker (the last time I played was sometimes around last Friday). The SSD is able to run games fine, and does run FFXIV without issue as well, as evidenced by when I was able to login to my other character just fine and play normally. I have at this point verified the files, reinstalled the game and otherwise made sure that everything is in order with the installation.
I have tried reinstalling the game, updating my drivers and other software and disabling or enabling various settings (low graphic settings, fullscreen, disabling/enabling compatibility settings etc) but the error is exactly the same every time, and does not seem to depend on any of this. This has never occurred before the current time, and nothing on my computer has changed between now and then (hardware-wise), so I'm wondering whether it is the patch, the server issues, or something else entirely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been consistently sitting in a queue for most of the last two days unable to play, and something is obviously going wrong with the process.
Thank you.
