Yes it sucks that release was pushed back.

But ask yourself. Would any other game company in this position have the balls to come on stream and break down in tears apologizing? Or accepting responsibility? Or explaining exactly why they delayed? And how it came from a place of absolute love and devotion for this game and world. How he wanted everything even the most minute details to be perfect for all of us?

No. No other company would do any of this.

Maybe be upset at the employers who wont let you readjust your time off requests. It’s completely okay to feel frustrated and upset but this delay in no means comes from a place of wanting to disrespect the players

It comes from a place of the utmost respect and love for the players.

Lets be real clear also. When it comes to any kind of development. Not every issue can be predicted months in advance. Sometimes things happen at the last possible second. Doing those last second checks that you and a dozen others may have missed hundreds of times before that have to be corrected. So.. its not actually feasible to expect that developers have some mutant ability that gives them flawless future sight. Reality is often disappointing you adapt and overcome

I think people who are unhappy after having made specific arrangements for the original release date are perfectly within their rights to feel this way, but I'd also like to add my own voice to say that I wholeheartedly support the delay.

I too made meticulous plans for my whole month based around the 19th November, and now find myself in a strange position of having two extra weeks. But watching the stream and reading Yoshida-san's message on the Lodestone, I know this decision was not made lightly, and was made only with the intention of improving the game experience for everyone. I can't possibly fault that.

To be honest, if the team made an announcement at some point where they said "we need to stop regular game updates for a few months/a year to work on improving X", I would be totally okay with that. Of course I love getting regular updates and am hugely impressed with how well they've kept to their schedule over the years, but sometimes a change is needed for a better result! I would rather have a delayed game that ultimately was a smoother and more rewarding experience than have it rushed.

Could this have been mitigated with better time management from the beginning? Maybe. But FFXIV has, for most of the past decade, had the most regular update schedule of content of ever-increasing quality of any game that I can think of. I'm totally okay with allowing them some slack here and there.

Maybe because it was actual genuine emotion and love for the players? Maybe because this is one of the few studios that still cares enough to prostrate themselves before their players and humbly ask for forgiveness, while giving a full explanation for the delay? Maybe because the man in charge also took sole responsibility for his failings to meet the announced date?

Again, how does this invalidate people's complaints? I'm following all the current threads on this matter, including the 40+ page one, and I've yet to see someone saying "Yoshi-p lied to us! his apology was disingenous!".

Or...and hear me out here...it's an actual valid point. This is one of the few dev teams that still gives a rip about their players and the lead actually cares about his audience(not to mention the game itself and those that work under him). I know it's hard to understand that it's possible that one person can care, not just for themselves, but for the people they provide a product for, but it is still a thing.
