Is the 14 dev team a sacred cow for some? Because it sure seems like it. To put it simply, they are selling a product. This product and updates have been delayed on short notice. People are angry, and they have a right to be. Simple as.

Absolutely. It's a product. It's a video game/entertainment product. Some would even call it a toy. At most, it's a video game that many of us play and greatly enjoy.
Some people, however, are treating it like it's a massive life changing evolutionary force that they need to schedule their entire being around and, as such, the delay is some soul crushing experience. It sucks if you took time off from work to try to experience it in full right at release (I did too), but it's still a video game.

Why act like your life is depending on the game release date then? You are exactly right which is why most of us don’t even bothered with 2 weeks delay as long as they keep the quality high. As you said, they are selling a product and what is delay if the product needs more time to be perfect? If anything, SE makes a good call and to say otherwise is just being unreasonable. People should know they are taking day off knowing it is always a risk especially for software release.

You guys are actually planning vacation days around this? That's just sad

No it is not. Mid November, through to between Christmas and New Years is busy. From the very end of December onwards, retail dies. So even if it was released at the original set date, people in retail would still struggle.

January was still pretty busy when I was in retail, but I was in receiving. All of the post-holiday freight coming in, plus all of the Valentines candy that usually starts shipping before New Years. Combined with lingering holiday junk in the way (wrapping paper and bows, in particular, could take weeks to clear out, if the manager didn't just let us ship it back as salvage), the back room was a total cluster. Mid-February to March was when it slowed down for a bit.
