I’ll tell you what annoyed me most about the delay, the fact that he stated they made the decision a few days ago. If that is true, then they should have immediately made a press release and an announcement about it instead of waiting until the 5th.

“Unfortunately we are announcing a two week delay on the release of Endwalker. Early access now begins December 3rd. We will provide the details during the live letter on Friday.”

That would have still been frustrating but given folks more time to rearrange schedules. Especially since it’s Friday night meaning many of us have to wait until Monday to rearrange things which is even less time.

I think there is a lot of behind the scenes people they'd need to alert first before they can go ahead and give a press release. While he made the decision it still had to go through the board of higher ups is what I assumed.

Yoshida said he went to the board of directors earlier this week and got the all clear for the delay. So they could have potentially told us earlier based on Yoshida’s own words.

I remember seeing similar threads when Blizzard announced their delay of Shadowland. I just wish that history won’t repeat here, where even the game was delayed, it was still the most buggy new expac, ever.

It's a reasonable thing to expect although still stinging given people who booked time off work (myself included)

Considering the new waves of people who will be arriving (Hololive permissions were granted for example, bringing their fans too) it's best to ensure stability as much as possible

I’m not too worried about SE delaying the expansion and then it launches as a buggy piece of garbage. I genuinely doubt such a thing will happen tbh.

I am very okay with the delay as well. Better release a game in the best shape possible than having another Cyberpunk. I think there's a lot of pressure placed on SE right now because many more people than ever are expecting this expansion, adding that this is the end of the story and needs to be as flawless as possible.

I don't want Yoshida-san to feel bad about this, he's working very hard.

so, the manufacturer sends you the car anyway so as not to miss their promised date. using your example, the company fulfilled their promise of delivery, even if driving the car is unreliable if not possibly life threatening to anyone around when you drive it. so you should be overjoyed, even if it is just lawn art.
As a consumer, all I know is I am not getting the car by the date was promised to me. The seller obviously cannot sell me a car that is knowingly defective, as this is also a non-compliance. Do you see where I am getting at here? The car being defective is the reason for the delay, but it does not change the fact that a promise date was not met. I was promised a fully functional vehicle by a certain date, and that commitment was not met. That is the point. The only point that I, as a consumer care about.

Again, as a human I can sympathize with the difficulties they face, and how disheartening it must have been for Yoshi to have to deliver more bad news. I know all about unforeseen circumstances, setbacks, and empty promises made to our own service providers that cause both of those issues. That is why my main points that I am pointing out is that these issues this team face goes far beyond SE, and that we as customers don't take our own value for granted.

In one of my psychology classes where we are asked the "is the glass half empty, or half full" question; the instructor was the least impressed with the students who responded along the lines of, "It is clearly both." It was the students whose thought systems were provoked that he was interested in. The students who inquired about the glass, the water, and circumstances around it, instead of just dismissing what the lesson was even about.

The reason why I bring that up is because of the relevance in your preference. That even though you are trying so hard to be sympathetic and understanding, you actually don't even realize the unintentional selfishness taking place, because you are not taking into account the importance others place in however they view that glass. We all want a product that works, and when it is promised to us. That is what we pay for. However, you also need to be made very aware that your time and resources are extremely valuable, and you pay A LOT of both to enjoy FFXIV. You are entitled to have the promises they (the provider) make to you delivered.

Yoshi knows this is absolutely unacceptable, which is likely partially why he was so emotional about it.

I am not without compassion. I got really choked up seeing this as well. It was the opposite of the happy tears he shed with the success of 2.0. He sees this as a complete failure, and all of this is just really, really unfortunate.

He is tough as nails though. Men like him have to be, and don't have much choice. Don't worry. All of us, including Yoshi will come out even stronger. But again, I can't emphasize enough that if we as a community want things to improve, we need to stop saying, "Nahhhhh, it'll be fine." Because it's not fine.

Hmm I see it a bit differently Gemina, tho I get your point. I think in individual cases you have to judge based on their individual merit, and not automatically compile it with general issues. In this case, has SE been slacking and delaying a lot more often? If no, I can perfectly understand that yes, they probably have a solid reason if they are out of options this time, regardless of the general state of the gaming industry as a whole. Just like if I generally greatly enjoy someone’s service, I’ll not go look elsewhere if there is an issue once or twice that is understandable. They have earned my goodwill and trust.

Besides that I do have sympathy for the tribulations that come with Covid. A lot of companies have figured out ways to optimise some parts of the challenges it has brought, and some parts of it turned out to be even better with working at home for example. But some things simply do suffer from delays, because the element of the easy and quick communication that you have when you work next to each other, is hampered by the pandemic. While that’s hardly ‘new’ news, that doesn’t make it a less valid argument while it’s still ongoing.
