It was a result of mismanagement, so it's good that Yoshida took personal responsibility, memes about Japanese apology theatrics aside.

I wish they'd announced it a week earlier, when the decision was actually made though. The additional delay around the announcement has made many peoples PTO situation more complicated.

I understand your point that with good planning, a sw development team should be able to see whether a deadline is realistic, to a certain extent that's true BUT I'm going to guess that you haven't worked on any large-scale software project, in any domain, because while you can put together a project plan, and put together a risk management plan, and hold all the meetings you want with (typically) multiple teams - on a project that could last many months or even years- that original deadline often does need to get updated.

I won't even get into factors that the team didn't originally plan for, but get introduced, such as (for example) corporate asking for new features mid-way into a project .

this is where i shake my head. In the whole community people always say Yoshi-P this, Yoshi-P that. But it's not just him behind these projects. There are several people behind it. The argument that he loaded up too much and that this part of the reason for the delay is just a wild guess.

It's pretty common in any projects to schedule a deadline and make it public. but a deadline doesn't mean that it can be done successfully. This mostly requires a good sense for it, however obstacles and unmet quality standards are quite normal. sure, it sucks to hear that two weeks before launch as it would also suck to tell a client a project won't be done on time. again it's normal and stuff like that happens. The release date was never a promise, it was just the time scope.

on the player side, which are in that regard the clients, being mad or frustrated is also a normal and common reaction. But keep in mind that Yoshi-P wants to guarantee a quality standard and therefore decided to delay. Also they mentioned EW will be pretty big so handling that is also difficult besides of current ongoing external influences aka covid.

While i'm a little bit sad about the delay, overall i don't mind it that much.

TL: The problem isn't so much the delay of the release but that the announcement of it was way too late. Personally I don't care about the delay itself. Also, just speaking for myself, but in the age of covid games are more important to me to unwind than ever. I work in a hospital and taking time off isn't something I can do at a whim. I think it's more then fair for me to be upset at a ruined vacation. I accept Yoshida-san's apology, and if it's for the sake of quality then fine, but the timing? They could've announced this sooner.

I'm disappointed, sure. But two weeks isn't the end of the world.

I trust Yoshi-P and his judgement to know these things better than me, a non-game developer. I really do! And I know he wouldn't have made the choice lightly.

Even so I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed by the news. I don't blame anyone, it is what it is, but this absolutely ruined so much for me. I won't go into the long list of reasons why, no one cares. It just really, really sucks and I am so, so depressed about it.

My one big fear is that Endwalker won't be worth it for me personally. It may be just burn out talking but the launch trailer and the LL just kind of made me really anxious for the fate of my favorite characters. Might end up extremely checked out of upcoming story content if, after all this waiting and delaying solely because of the story, Endwalker ends with major character deaths of any of the Scions. Or even the loss of any of the Scions in other ways, such as them being sidelined in the story.

What have you been doing these past months. I like Yoshi but he has himself all over the place doing ff14 and ff16. He took to much that he could chew and now he has spread himself thin. He has to realize he is human and working on 2 games at once is overkill.

You said it yourself. He's only human. Humans make oopsies. It happens Yea maybe he misjudged the time they would need for this expansion. That also happens. All you can do is learn from it and do better next time.

That gives no one a right to mock them or make this worse for them - that's time off they earned and honestly they have EVERY right to be upset.

Were in the middle of a global pandemic where even the fully vaccinated can get sick.

What else are they going to do with their vacation time - go to the beach and get sick?

Personally, I'm really not that upset about it - I was initially, but its only two weeks.

But, lets not forget the people whose jobs WILL NOT approve them any time off during December. They can be upset, they are allowed and justified.

They already took extra time, they cancelled game content to avoid delays, they still delayed the game - this is all a 100% fair assessment.

People are allowed to be upset. The only emotions you can control are your own - stop trying to change other peoples feelings or opinions - no one is wrong for being mad they waited until the last minute to tell us - the company I work for does schedules a month in advanced - once is posted - you ain't changing it - period. I'm sure these people are in similar situations.

Ok, so while a bit annoyed with the announcement (though actually sort of works out in the end if I can reclaim my PTO) I’m wondering since the Square store doesn’t show if the physical CE will still be shipped on time or has it been delayed as well?
