Is the last boss of The Lost City of Amdapor (Hard) a Sin Eater?

I'm finishing up the Anima Weapon quest on my SCH and when I got to the last boss of The Lost City of Amdapor, not only is the model nearly-identical to the Sin Eater from the ShB trailer, it spawns adds that also closely resemble the lesser Sin Eaters we see in ShB. I don't know the lore very well behind this dungeon, but this is a Heavensward dungeon so it seems odd we'd fight something that so closely resembles a sin eater before ShB.

Did everyone know this and I'm just the last person to find out? Thoughts?

No just copy pasted models which in my fair opinion just seemed incredibly lazy

Probably not, but we don't know for sure. It's definitely not summoned from the First, as even accounting for time sync shenanigans the First didn't flood until well over a thousand years later, but whether the bosses are artificially created sin eaters or just magicked statues, there's been no official word on the subject.

The Sin Eater-like enemies in Amdapor are animated statues created by White Mages, not actual Sin Eaters. The official explanation (I believe from the 2nd lore book) is that the Amdapori saw visions of Sin Eaters and designed their statues after them.

They may not be Sin Eaters per se, but seeing as how flooding someone's aether towards umbral can create monsters that resemble voidsent, it is possible that the Amdapori have seen something like Sin Eaters in their research into white magic

Yeah, it's exactly this. Although it should be underlined that since the First's Sin Eaters didn't exist, it's up in the air where exactly they found some... and very possible they made the originals themselves.

I just assumed that the Ascians were also trying to light-flood other shards which caused Sin Eaters to manifest there, it's just that the First was the first time they got one close enough to rejoin.

It's basically an animated statue that's been extremely over-aspected with astral aether. Unlike most sin-eaters, Kuribu doesn't disipate once it's killed/defeated, it just returns to being an inert regular piece of rock (and in fact can be reactivated under the right circumstances, as it reawakens in the SCH quests).

I don’t think that it’s a sin eater. Reused assets aside, there could be an argument for the Kuribu-esque sin eaters to be “reflections” of Kuribu. In the same sense that all the shards are vague reflections of the Source. They’re visually similar, yet also not the same. At least, that’s the logic I’ve employed for them. A lot of the lesser sin eaters vaguely resemble monsters we have seen and fought on the Source; just like the regions on the First vaguely resemble some of the areas on the Source.

Back in the day before we had any of our knowledge, most people assumed they were a recreation of the opposite of voidsent. That ended up kind of being shown later to be true but the idea was still around when it first came out
