I have the weirdest issue with FFXIV...BSOD..ONLY with FFXIV

Ok, I am not sure what to make of this. It is 100% only with FFXIV. No other games and no other programs.

I randomly get a Event ID: 41 Kernal-Power error with FFXIV. It could be while in a dungeon, a raid, or even in the cinematic trailer.

My drivers are updated, I tested all my hardware, all my connections are good (I even took apart my PC and unplugged everything and replugged everything back end....both ends), my CPU (I even added new thermal paste just to be sure) and PSU are fine, my RAM is fine.

    I have a 850W PSU Plat
    3080 RTX card
    Ryzen 7 5800X CPU
32 gigs of 3600 mhz ram
3rd gen m.2 cards (plenty of space)
    A x570-P Asus motherboard.

My CPU and GPU runs cool. Everything is cooled with water

Everything is less than a year old and I built it.

Like I said, it's only when I play FFXIV. I can play any other game at ultra settings that really gives my PC a workout. FFXIV should be a cakewalk

I have no idea what is going on. I googled this and I have found others having the same exact BSOD with only FFXIV and the same event id

If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears!

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The error you are describing may occur when the system shuts down unexpectedly or improperly. We suggest to perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the 'Start up' Tab. Then, disable everything located under that tab. Additionally, can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display'.

Lastly, you mentioned that you experienced this in high volume areas (dungeons, raids, or cinematic trailers), do you experience this issue anywhere else in the game?

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    Hi Thukoolo

I've honestly experienced it everywhere, so far, but in towns. When I'm fighting in the open world, dungeons, raids, the cinematic trailers. I think its completely random. It only happens when I play FFXIV. Not sure why.

I've played other games on ultra settings like Age of Empires IV, Cyberpunk 2077, Kingmaker, Baldur's Gate 3, and some other games. I never get this BSOD. It's only with FFXIV and only on my high end system (my laptop which is not even in the same ballpark as my desktop) plays it no problem.

    Very odd.

Thank you for the follow-up Annah,

I apologize for this ongoing issue once again. Have you attempted to do a fresh uninstall and reinstall of Final Fantasy XIV? Additionally, do you have any background programs running during Final Fantasy XIV? Lastly, you mentioned that your other device (Laptop) can run the game with no problem; have you tried adjusting the BIOS settings for the newer Desktop?

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

    Hello

Yes. I even moved the game to another m.2 card to even make sure the card itself wasn't corrupt. No background programs running.

I can run cyberpunk 2077 on 4K ultra settings with my cpu and gpu giving off tons of heat and gobbling up resources like crazy...but if i log into FFXIV..poof. Crash. I even crash watching the load screen cinematic.

Ive been looking this up and it looks like others are having the same issue with ffxiv and for most of us, it started in August

You seem to have it worse than me, for sure.

Could you test if you can reproduce the Black Screen of Death also in "The Jade Stoa", if you can get into it via undersized party.

If I get into that particular instance and have a couple Browser Tabs open - or even dare to stream it via Twitch/Discord - I get 100% of the time a BSOD. On the the other hand, if I dont have anything open it's very stable.
That is the most reproducible black screen instance I found in FFXIV. Other than that I have the BSOD only in Delubrum Reginae at Boss 3, when one of the robots spawns the gravitational bombs. Do you have these issue there as well perhaps?

Have a great day. I hope one day we get more help at some point. So far, I searched the entire forum and most people weren't able to fix it or did something very random/switched their entire pc.

Like you, my PC runs every other game/software perfectly fine and stable.

Currently I'm even afraid to launch FFXIV, because I running into such an issue is very frustrating and draining.

I have the problem too. I am now downloading the game for the 3rd time because the Quicklauncher tells me on integrity check that the files are not in "original state" and such. If this problem persists after the 3rd download of the whole game this time I will wait til a hotfix rolls out.

Edit 1: 3rd re-download didn't fix it. What the hell is going on?

Edit 2: It happens for me every time I log into the game. Sometimes I am able to run around without problems but after a couple minutes the game crashes without error code to desktop. The game is installed on an external 1TB SSD that is connection via USB-C.

Good morning everyone and thank you for the additional information provided.

I do apologize for the delay in response to this issue. Just to confirm, have you attempted to toggle DirectX 11 support by selecting the ‘Config’ button on the launcher? Did this occur after updating the graphics card? Furthermore, have you attempted to uninstall or reinstall the drivers for your graphics card? Lastly, please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive as this would be the general main drive for the device. Please let us know if these methods help resolve the issue.
