While I am glad a new contest has been posted, which I am sure will be fun for those able to participate; I can not help but feel cheated.

Yet another contest where Oceanic players can not participate?! It is fine to charge us in European currencies but not allow us permissions to attend the contest of that region?

Please, please SE do everyone a favour and create contests in game (like you did with the Garuda contest) to by-pass whatever laws that are binding you (though it seems like other game companies have much less trouble with offering to multi regions simultaneously)

What about a Tanabata night event where we can post our wishes in game to a wish tree on strips of paper?

I do agree with you though. Even though I'm not from Australia, you all deserve a chance to join in the contests! Hopefully they make one for you soon!

But again it is not a matter of 'We want to play too!' it's a matter of contests where everyone can play. At least I hope in the future that perhaps we can have them in game only ^^?

I do have to say it's really odd how they have to go through these protocols for a "free" contest in which you can win a digital prize. The only thing I can conclude is that since you pay a monthly fee for this game there's a law that states that setting up these contest may entice people to pay for your services and hence form some sort of illegal gambling according to their laws.

These contest aren't as simple as "no purchase is necessary" since you do have to make a purchase in order to be eligible for these contest which is prolly where the issue lies.

If nothing else, a "contest" can be a front used to harvest personal information from large numbers of people ("All you need to enter is your name, your birthdate, your phone number, your bank account number..."). Or it could be FREE* (*for the first hit).

Contest regulations usually involve what the contest conditions can be, what the prize can be, the fact that there must actually be a prize, how fair the contest must be ("employees and their families excluded"), and how well-published all of the contest rules must be (i.e. how fine the print is allowed to be).

Contest scams are designed to look safe and harmless. That's the entire point of the scam. And that's the entire point of policing contests. Think of all the iPods and shopping cards you've "won" via SMS/email/monkey-punching/etc.

But different jurisdictions have different ideas about what should and should not be allowed, and so you get this thread right here.

In the end though, there is no reason for it, because all contents should be of in-game format, like Garuda.

The only difference I can see is that the winning result for Garuda was determined by an in-game condition, this one is not as its picked by the reps. So to avoid this just make it done in game and have the game randomly pick a winner XD or something idk, you lose creativity wins then.

Maybe there is no way around it (though yes, lots of other game companies get around it, so idk what SE's business is)
