Agree with the idea that the thread is a good discussion, even if I disagree with the premise (And feel that it would be way over complicated to implement, re: my earlier question)
How to separate the thread from My Immortal though...

Jesus, what a terrible idea.
Commends can be frustrating at times, i know it very well ... As a healer i have runs where i rescue people out of AoEs, rez dead DPS, keep the party alive while rezzing the tank, etc ... but will get 0 commends, and other times i have runs where i literally do nothing special, or even perform poorly (let people die because i'm zoning out for example), and yet i will get multiple commends.
I don't know what to tell you. That's just how commends work ... It might not be the greatest system but i would surely never trade it for what you described in your OP.
Oh yeah. My first time doing E5 normal, I was there as AST and no one could stay alive no matter what I did, so there were a few minutes in total of just me and the MT. It was our first pull, and I used healer LB3 twice. We eventually succeeded without wiping, everyone was like "wow great heals" and then I got one commendation. Really wished I was recording it.Commends can be frustrating at times, i know it very well ... I have been a member of these forums for years. I have read arguments from people like RiyahArp and NephthysVaryn. I have seen bad arguments and been spurred to anger by logic I cannot even begin to describe as coherent.
But this.
I don't think I ever...EVER...expected to see someone craft a deeplore like being a fairy that threatens to harass people.
I just...
What is my life?

My intent is a personal grading system to improve skill as a player gets higher up so they make jobs with extreme complication.. Hand holding all the time is meha at best.
It is private so no harm and it gives u a way to get better...
Beside most crown players are kind horrible with the jobs dieing to easy things lol

They have actually said in interviews/liveletters that they were considering putting a system where the player can monitor their own DPS, but they are hesitant about it.
I think the commendation system is fine. Players just aren't incentivized to use it mindfully.

The problem with having a private personal dps meter is you have nothing as a point of reference. Someone might think their X dps is just fine, but just not know that everyone else around them is doing X + X(0.7) or whatever. Same problem as back in the day when people were looking at the threat meter for gauging their own dps,and them being at the top only because the more skilled players were using their threat dumps.
A private ranking system (where you don't see anyone else's rank) helps you gauge how your performance compares to the average over time.
(And yeah I prefer ranking to letter grades. Because its more flexible and less work to have to tailor it for each job, role, and encounter. Crowdsource the performance feedback.)

~sigh~

Yeah, I mean I don't disagree. I think that's another reason why they are hesitant. How would you effectively put something like that in without comparing it to others? I recall Yoshi-P saying they thought of a gauge that sort of filled up, and if it stayed full you know you are doing your best dps, but it's all conceptual. I don't think we will ever see a party-wide DPS meter because it seems to go against their fundamental design philosophy of party-play.The problem with having a private personal dps meter is you have nothing as a point of reference. I was just mentioning it because it is something they have considered.
It's not that I think commendations are bad, but the fact that you can't give one to someone who's left the party means that a newbie player often never gets the chance to leave one, because they may be watching the cut scene while everyone else scampers off.
Similarly, because there is an incentive to leave commendations, you have people being commended who may either be not worth it, or they were just plain unmemorable.
So, yeah, I'm ok with changes to the Commendation system, but the method suggested by the OP isn't the way to do it.
