Is gathering bugged?

I've noticed that even when on the sweet spot, you have a tendency to hit materials other than what your are looking for. To illustrate my point, I was logging in Skull Valley aiming for ash branches for the GC quota this week, I am a lv 38 btn. At that level, my gear shouldn't be an issue, and I would think that I would be guaranteed a high chance of getting the mats I want. (if not a 100% chance) Instead, I'm getting large quantities of cock feathers and ash logs, pretty much everything but the ash branches I'm aiming for. What gives?

You're always going to get some spillover, but generally over the long run you end up with more of what you're aiming for. I know when I'm fishing for a particular fish, it always feels like I'm getting nothing but everything else, but after 4 hours of fishing I always have way more of what I was aiming for to begin with.

It doesn't take 4 hours of gathering to see the difference, but overall it's a "long run" kind of thing.

Then again all I do is fish, so there is a chance botany is bugged. Just adding my observations.

What grade are you gathering at, if its 4 I would check if you can get them at grade 5s, I know when mining Nophicas wells (grade 4) has a terrible electrum ore rate even at the sweet spot, but Halatali (grade 5) is alot better.

To gather grade 5s at a decent rate you may need to do some lvling but some lvl 40 leves will lvl you in no time.

The sweet spot does not = 100% chance of an item


Look at it like this

at the default spot you get

39% silver
40% iron
30% stiperstone
1% kidney ore

you bump it down to -4(kidneys sweet spot)

and it becomes

30% iron
30% silver
30% stiperstone
10% kidney


all the sweet spot is, is the best % chance to get that item, it doesnt mean its all you will get

FWIW I upped my perception to 117 @ lvl 50 and I am seeing a much better hit rate on the items I want.

I dunno if its coincidence or not though.

Could be coincidence everywhere I have read all it says perception does is increase HQ rate, but it could be true, and no one has put it online, might have to try it out.

so if the rate is 1-3, youll see 3 more liekly the higher your perception is

I had said I was gathering at skull valley, that's grade 2. at my level, I can log grade 5, so like I said, my gear/level is not an issue.

Perception only affects HQ rates. Quantity is affected by one of your base stats (INT/MND/PIE).
