You're right that censorship happens all the time.Something something USA government something something Snowden report something something censored.
More seriously though, censorship is not a black and white issue. There isn't a single organized country on Earth that doesn't engage in censorship in some way.
There are cases where censorship is perfectly acceptable. Just giving one example makes your entire statement false and ridiculous.
Mosaic or black bars over some idiot that's streaking across a soccer field; bleeping bad language on public TV/news where children might be watching; blurring gore/death.

So, either you're wrong, or USA is part of the "never the good guys. Never once" group... :/
...Titanmen, is that you...?
The difference is that I don't defend it, nor tolerate it.
Furthermore, where did I insinuate the USA was the good guy?
Meh, people have already mostly moved to Discord.
This will probably kill what little chat fcs had in game, especially when VC is far less cumbersome. Not that people are scared that any little slight will get them reported, but it's rather the flavor of guild chats that has become increasingly unpopular for other forms of communication in all MMOs. Someone offline or not paying attention will not lose messages because their eyes are not glued to the chatbox, you can ping people directly for important notices, and LINKS!! Discord overlay for PC pretty much killed all FC chat interaction I have had for a number of years now.
While I find this policy very silly, it's not going to be a problem for the majority of people who play MMOs.
If you don't like the FC, just leave it and find another one.
I think you misunderstand. The individual overrides the collective. That wasn't an argument. That is an objective reality. Disagreements don't matter.
Furthermore, I could argue that their US based data centers being on US soil obligates them to adhere to US cultural standards.
They've stated GMs will have leeway to adjudicate reports based on general cultural standards of the region the server's on. What may be unacceptable in Japan may be acceptable in North America and the GMs are allowed to take that into account.
And the US is currently in a culture war. Which is why the idea of relying upon GM discretion is a failed policy.

Nothing has changed in the TOS. People could be reported before for chat they didn't like. People can do that now too. The only difference is SE has put some examples out there because the community for years has been asking for examples of what is and isn't considered unacceptable in various situations. So SE finally gave the community what they asked for - examples. I seriously don't understand why people are so upset. The standards have always been there - they were just not told to us before in black and white.

Enjoy Life you only get one.
The examples listed literally justify the condemnation of the TOS. They don't reinforce it.Nothing has changed in the TOS. People could be reported before for chat they didn't like.
