My Horrible experience with most (not all) WoW players in FFXIV so far

As someone who played Wow off and on from Burning Crusades until up to a few months ago when I cancelled my sub because of such sad lack of content, and also been playing FFXIV since ARR with breaks here and there during content lulls, I rather dislike the term WoW refugee. We're all MMO players - most of us have sampled many. I rarely ever saw much of the toxicity people mention in WoW - granted I didn't do Mythic+ dungeons and only raided outside of LFR with people I knew. I did tend to ignore the world chats because most of it was full of a few people saying whatever they could to get attention/reactions. But you see that in any sort of multiplayer game. I rarely run into anyone terribly bad or rude in FF either.

I never mind someone offering advice on how to do a particular fight, or advice on optimizing how I play a particular class either. Granted if I am terrible at a class - I generally won't play it at all in a dungeon with other people, not wanting to make their run terrible with my bad playing. I think in general, if you treat people decently and respectfully, they will respond in kind - but there are always, no matter what game you play, going to be some bad apples who take advantage of the anonymity of the internet to act like a complete jerk. You don't even have to look any farther than some people on the forums.

I first heard characters in an MMO referred to as "toons" back in Guild Wars 1. I always thought that the usage came from the Toon RPG that was published in 1984: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toon_(role-playing_game)

Some of my friends played that game when I was in middle school.

The only negative experience I've had with people who were clearly WoW players thus far is someone who was deliberately interrupting a bard performance in Limsa.
Everyone was sitting and listening, but he was running up and emote spamming in their face for like 10 minutes before people had enough and called him out.
When I said '' just report him '' he stopped and began ranting basically saying '' gcbtw '' in a mocking way and all the copium WoW player memes.

No... You were just being obnoxious dude.
But it was a '' culture shock '' to him I think, he probably thought everyone thought he was being hilarious and would join in and try to ruin it and he was trying reaaaaaaaaally hard.
He didn't seem to understand that nah we actually had respect for the Bard who was there to perform on our server and were just chilling.

While I agree with what you said, I also believe that the WoW refugees are coming here to get away from all that, not to propagate it. I don't buy the OP's story.

Many are coming here to get away from it, yes. I would include myself in that. But I have seen a lot of the sentiment the OP is referring to whilst leveling the past couple of months from others that come over from WoW. I have even encountered one individual who made it very clear they hate the game (but are still playing it lol) and are only here because Asmongold is, and only playing until he "comes to his senses and goes back to WoW."

I cant speak for every ex WoW player, but I imagine once you find there are other games out there, and they are pretty decent games to play... the prospect of returning become dimmer and dimmer. WoW was a great game, back in the day, they even brought back Classic for the rose tinted glasses crowd... but its not been that game for years now... and there were good times back then, but I think they are so far down the rabbit hole now, they will never recapture that.

Why are you assuming that player came from WoW? I've run into players behaving the same way in other games. A lot of them have never played WoW because they only play games on consoles and WoW is PC.

It's not a WoW specific problem. It's not even a MMO or gaming industry specific problem. It's a maturity problem, with social media goading people into acting like idiots for the attention it brings.

Let's leave WoW out of it and look at the real source- the person at the controller/keyboard and the society that encourages the behavior.
