Penelty Point reduction time frame issues

So as everyone is going over the revised terms of service the thing I came across was a penalty point system and how over a course of time you will lose points and lower the chance of your account being terminated/punished. The intended goal is to "give players time to learn from their mistakes" but the big issue with it is as stated

"If the previously issued penalty was either a Caution or Warning, accrued Penalty Points will continue to decay until it reaches 0 points in a one-to-two-year period. However, if the previously issued penalty was a Temporary Service Account Suspension, then the accrued points will not start decaying until a minimum of a three to six-year period has passed and will not reach 0 points for a minimum of seven to ten years."

This is by far way to long to teach anyone a lesson and will instead make them quit. Someone had a bad day and it will take up to two years to remove the points put against them? What the.....

Got temp bad for bad behavior you should have known better about? Yeah it will take the whole life span of the game to reset the points..... 7 to 10 YEARS?!

I am saying someone needs to get off the moral high horse and realize people put years of their time into this game and points may eventually build up but punishing people permanently isn't going to make them fix nothing, it will instead make them resent the company for wiping out years of progress and being to unfair with the rules.

Please get someone higher up to revise those rules and make them actually fair for people.

I totally agree with ya friend, kinda makes me 2nd guess talking to or even thinking of helping people I haven't known in game for years.

I don't play a big variety of games, I'm more of stick to one or two for long periods gamer but FFXIV is becoming so obsessed with no one getting their feelings hurt that it's getting crazy like how things are in the real world.

I play games to escape that crap and I really enjoy this community, been here since ARR day 1, but this over obsession on catering to not offending people is becoming exhausting, heck I have a black list for people who offend me, I thought that's what it's for, even those people I wouldn't want em to lose their game, I'd just want em to stay away from me.

If you read the main post for the changes, you'll find this:

"Although Penalty Points were internal information and therefore were not publicly explained until now, we have added an explanation as they are essential in understanding the system of “Reduction of Penalty Points” mentioned below. Note that there are no changes to the procedures themselves at this time."

The penalty points are not new. They've been around since possibly the beginning. We just didn't know about it.

Does anyone know if forum bans count as penalties towards your actual in game account?

Or is the forums and in game two separate accounts and don't affect each other?

Exactly. Still going over all the rules but from the sounds of it they are allowing trolls to mass report everyone in the game for just existing. The over reach of rules to "cover everything" is making it difficult to express yourself or have any communication with strangers. Im all for being nice but the rules allow trolls to abuse them far more then normal players.

My main gripe is with the point drop off system tho as that affects it all in the long term rather then the short term.

yeah but finding out about how long they take to drop off is ridiculous.
