Dark Mode

Hello everyone!

I made a post on the subreddit for FFXIV and it was recommended I make a post here about it.

I wanted to inquire about anyway to convert all text boxes into a dark mode option.

As far as I know, the only dark theme occurs when using Aetheryt Crystals in towns, some menus and etc. However for the Journal, Dialogue Boxes and more, its all the tan color with brown font.

As someone with eye sensitivity issues, this hurts my eyes trying to read things for storylines and quests.

My hope would be the developers could do a true dark theme and have all of that in dark mode and it would be a dream come true.

However if there is any other alternative method people know of that could also help me out, I would be most appreciated because I can not try and read them for very long or it really strains my eyes (I have Retinitis Pigmentosa) and I have to stop playing to give them a rest.

Ive seen several reddit threads about it but no real answer. Some mods can help chat boxes but not the Journal, Quest Boxes and etc.

I think it would be a huge advantage not just for people with eye issues but also people who game at night and dont want a blinding journal in their eyes at 3am lol

Have you tried the classic theme which makes them blue, or the gamma setting in the system configuration?

The blue is ok but its still a little sore on the eyes. The Gamma setting changes everything. Everything visually game wise is fine, just white/bright backgrounds with text is what hurts my eyes. Photophobia with a Bloom Visual effect is the easiest way to describe what I experience.

So many forums are usually either inherently "dark theme" nowadays or have it built in that whenever I open this in the morning, it's like staring into the sun.

In game doesn't bother me so much, but I always sign for dark modes added to basically anything. I'm an old lady with bad eyes, have mercy.

Have you tried turning on your computers night mode? It'll dull all the whites and blues to reduce eye strain. I have mine set up to come on 9:00 pm.
