Transferring game files from HDD to SSD?

    Hey all,

I realized the other day that my game files are all on the HDD and not SSD and would like to rectify it. Is there an easy way to transfer files without screwing it all up or would it just be easier to download a brand new version to the SSD?

If transferring is easier/better, I'd be grateful for instruction on how to do that.

    Thanks in advance.

You can simply move the files over to the SSD and then fix the shortcuts.

personally, when I did mine, I just did a fresh install. obviously took a bit longer, but dont have to worry about missing something important and then having to do the install anyway.

Thank you both. I had visions of modding Elder Scrolls games dancing in my head when thinking of file transfer and making sure everything's correctly linked. I'll give a straight drag and drop a go. If that doesn't work, a new installation isn't difficult.

    Have a good day!

If using Steam you can easily change the installation location without much hassle like having to edit registry files

Everything FF14 needs is contained in it's folder. As far as I'm aware FF14 does not have any registry edits. I've moved my FF14 folder several times and copied the folder back over after a fresh computer format a couple times and never had any issues with FF14 working. This was for the non-steam version.

    This is what I did

    1. Backup the folder into another drive
    2. Did a fresh install of Windows 11.
    3. Copied FF14 folder back to SSD.
    4. Ran ffxivboot64.exe from "x:\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot" (x: is the drive of your game folder) and it works.
    5. Made a shortcut out of it.

Best practice is make backup of game folder, uninstall, reinstall to the new drive/folder, then copy game files over the new installation.

That way registry entries are correct (if that ever matter, but best to be safe imo)
