Since you don’t have access to parsers as a PS4 player you can get a general sense of where you stand on dps from the enmity list. Outside of tanks and healers who obviously skew the results with enmity skills and healing, there are no enmity dumps in the game anymore on dps so your damage and enmity are going to line up fairly well. As a SAM you should realistically be top dps on enmity outside of a BLM, if you’re losing to other dps even if they’re getting dance partner your rotation is likely off which is particularly bad as a SAM since damage is all you bring to the table.

If you’re falling short then just do some research, look up rotation guides, gear guides, ask the balance discord and practice on the SSS dummies, eventually you’ll settle into the rotation.

On a few occasions I've had the tank die and either a red mage or machinist takes the agro but at the time I think it was because the fight did not favor melee at all or I was screwing up my rotation. It is true that SAM is easy to understand but has a high skill ceiling for optimal play.

Some dancers are just not as informed as others. It could be that you're genuinely not good at SAM, or it could be that some dancers just don't pick the strongest player. Nobody knows really.

If I was to start playing it at 80 right now, my first impression is to partner up with the SAM and the only reason why that's the case is because of the ShB LL back in 2019. Even though when I play SAM I almost always get Dance partner, it has always not made much sense to me because for all that player knows, I could be biggest joke of a SAM that ever SAM'ed.

Just pair with the dps with highest aggro regarless of their job.
but if all other dps are a big disappointment then you can pair with OT or MT and most Tanks loved that as far as I noticed.
