    Can't glam (some) weapons

Not new player, but this has bugging me for a while and some new players might have the same issue, so...

Some weapons can't be "glammed"(?) in the glamour dresser. I'm above their level, it's the correct job (of course!), but they're marked with a red cross.

This happened before with some GNB weapons and now I'm leveling a RDM and same thing happens. I'm currently level 55 and I can't use Guespiere (lvl 53) neither Martial Foil (lvl 51). There is nothing in the weapons that says it cannot be used as glamour.

    Please advise.

Glamour works piece by piece according to the item you're applying it to, not to your own level.

I assume you are still using the level 50 Ironworks gear. You will need to upgrade – the level 53 gear from Sohm Al has equal stats so you'll want to switch to that or higher.

Oh so it's the level of the item (not item level, level requirement) and not the job's?

How didn't I ever notice that before...

EDIT: yes, in the meantime I got a better weapon than augmented ironworks and I could glam it.

Correct. It does unfortunately leave an awkward spot at the start of each expansion where the best gear at the previous level cap is better than the new higher-level gear so you can't glamour the weaker item onto the stronger one.
