On the topic of Tail Hiding

    Hi.

I've been a long time player of FF14, and quite honestly it has been my gateway into Final Fantasy as a franchise. Admittedly I am here because of a friend, but with the recent downfall of a game not worth mentioning, it has officially become my new homestead. Just wanted to make a short intro since well, this is my first post here.

    So!

Digressions aside, tails. What's up with that?
I play Hrothgar, I love the lore and I love the aesthetic about them.
Wanna know what I don't like though?

    • Tail clipping... with pretty much around 70% of equippable gear. AuRa, I am sure you can relate.
    • Mane (hair) clipping, made even more egregious considering the only way to change one's hairstyle on Hrothgar is by throwing more money at Square.
    • The hat issue. This one needs not even mentioning, everyone knows about it and the Viera can relate, I am sure.

Sorry that I am opening with a rant, but... here's the thing. The hats I can get over, right? No sweat off my nose. But Square, please... have a heart and give us a "hide tail" option in the character menu.

"Just place a race with no tail" is not a solution! It's Hrothgar I want to play, but texture clipping is not something we should be dealing with. It's a design flaw that can be easily remedied, and the AuRa have been asking for this for so long now.

What exactly is the issue? I don't understand...

Anyway... does anyone have any info on potential improvements in the works for the currently hamstringed races or should I just cut my losses and accept I'll be forced to deal with watching parts of my character clip into parts of his armor?

    Sincerely yours, Magnus Ottkinson.

I don't like the concept of a tail being hidden. It's an identifying feature of the race(s). It doesn't make a lot of sense for them to be hidden, granted it does look pretty odd how badly it clips - especially with things like capes. I can understand it being hidden for very specific outfit pieces though.

But isn't it a better avenue to give players the option to choose whether or not they want to display it considering the state of texture clipping?
I am well aware that Square are not going to update all the item models, that thinking's so wishful that it's delusional.
So hiding a few polygons is the next best thing, and if the player owning said character wants to hide their tail, what's the harm in giving them this option?

the tails on hrothgar are really goofy for their body size. id rather actual tall and slim ronso with their long tails. i do wish i could hide my tail - or cap it with a piece of metal or something.

I'd like to see it as an option, particuarly capes clip really bad and it makes me not want to use them
Would also be nice to not have the tail-boner with the evenstar set

Thank you! Someone who feels the same pain. Thank the stars.

For the sake of keeping a world and it's races believable, and consistent. It doesn't make sense for a miqo'te, au ra, or hrothgar to just cut their tails off. Similarly, I wouldn't be for viera ears being hidden either, for example.

And it's not believable that they can tuck it into their pants perhaps?
Or is it more believable that it's ghosting through their equipment instead?

Here's an alternative: instead of playing a race with beast features, one can play a race without these, and avoid clipping. Tails, Au Ra horns, viera ears (select pieces), etc.. but I digress.

It's more believable that their pants would accommodate their tail, and they wouldn't just tuck it in, and be incredibly uncomfortable - especially many of the au ra tails. So, yeah, it clipping makes more sense. It shouldn't clip through capes, but instead the cape should have physics, the game just doesn't have that. It's a compromise.

I already said that I don't have any interest in playing a tail-less race in my first post.
I have a vested interest in playing Hrothgar and they are being plagued by clipping issues that can be resolved with one elementary addition to player customization options.
What you mentioned is in no way a compromise, a compromise is when a mutual solution is found that satisfies both sides to a conflict at least to a degree.
You claim you are concerned with visual aesthetic, yet in what way would clipping ever make more sense considering it is a visual discrepancy?
I am just not able to process your line of reasoning here.
