Gladiator lvl 80 challenge

Hello, my name is Nyanta Meowster from Omega server and I just completed Gladiator challenge, level up to lvl 80 without doing paladin quest chain.



Before I go do my job quests I would like to say few words.

When I started this challenge, I didnt originally know I will stick to it, I was just trying to level up my gladiator. But I was kinda lazy so instead of doing my lvl 15 job quest, I pushed on. Soon I realized I am almost level 40 and this idea of leveling higher was born.

I met lot of people during my jurney. As an interesting matter of fact, people you do meet invarious dungeons have no problem with the way you play. During my whole leveling trip I met really angry folks only once and was kicked out for not having a job stone.

Other then that people do not care, are amused by the idea or think it is funny.

What intrigued me the most, was the fact that people really offended by this are often the people you do not play with. People you find in various communities, who react for example on screenshot from the game where I play as lvl 70+ gladiator.

I have heard various things. I have heard that I wont have all my skills, which is true, that I will get one shot in the dungeons, which is not true, that it is agianst terms of service and I will get banned for trolling and loads of others negative reactions.

You also meet people who are the other way around. They understand the intent to play the game your way, embrace the idea of challenge or have real laid back attitude of live and let live - in opposition to people who threatened to shank me to death if I dont get my job stone - I am not making this up, this I really encountered.

This aside, how did I even level up all the way to 80?

Luckily FF14 gave me lots of tools to do so. I did fates, I did MSQ roulletes which gave me HUGE chunk of experience and I did lot of dungeons and some palace of the dead floors 1-20 if I wanted to change the pace.


That would be all. If I offended anyone, I am sorry you feel that way, I truly am. I am however not sorry that I am the reason, because that is on you. You decide to feel that way over something that doesnt really impact you and that is the sad thing.

In case you, for whatever reason, decide to do what I did, keep in mind:

• You will deal less dmg then average tank but you still be able to keep agro and have neccesary mitigation to survive everything, unless you do mechanics wrong
• Do not progress palace of the dead above floor 20 becuase that is an actual content where you could put your party into huge dissadvantage
• Do not be afraid of leveling dungeons or lvl 50/60/70 dungeons, you can do those just fine
• Keep your Tomestone gear up to date
• People have tools and rights to do so to votekick you out of dungeon if they feel uncomfortable to play with you on your base class, however they have no rights to report you (so dont worry about that), accept the kick if neccesary (it really doesnt happen often) and do not be toxic, show them another way

Now I have few words for people, who get offended by me playing my way. Please understand that I have same rights to play my game any way I want to. It is not up to you to judge what I can or cannot do in game.
I can understand you may think you are right and that you may think it is unwise to not play the most efficient way, but it is not your place to force me or anybody else to play the way you want me or anyone else to play.
I did not breach terms of service and I didnt troll nobody. I did my job as a tank done and my lvl 80 gladiator is proof of this.
By turning hostile, threaten to report me (which you are free to do so but you also will have to deal with the consuqeunces if the report inevitably turn out to be malicious one), insult me and generally acting in a poor way, you yourself turn into the toxic person so keep that in mind.

Yesterday I found out three players during my roulette stuck in Dohn Mheg dungeons. They have been in front of the first boss for 42 minutes, because their tank left them. Their damage and healing skills were not best and dungeon took longer to complete then it takes whe n I run it with trust companions.
But we did manage to complete it. Despite not having my soulstone, I explained these players tactics and in the end we pushed through.

So next time you will bash somebody for playing their way, think twice if you are not that tank who had his soulstone but left group of sprouts behind because they didnt clear the content fast enough for his liking.

You are right that you will not get 1-shot without a job stone, because it is gear that affects this not your job stone.

You were lucky. Normally people abandon the dungeon immediately because they don't want to deal with it and have a misconception that you will get 1-shot when you won't.

I actually tried this once as Thaumaturge just to see if it was possible. I got to about 67, realized it was indeed possible and quit and unlocked BLM because the barebones rotation was rather boring. However the main difference was I absolutely did not inflict my self-decided handicap on other players.

It's perfectly possible to level to 20 with mobs and leves, run Squadrons until 60, push to 70 with a mixture of beast tribes, daily Hunt mobs and Fates, then go Trusts to 80. Doing group content is simply selfish.

Here you're either misinformed or trolling. PotD 51-60 runs are pretty much the only group content it's acceptable to not have a job stone. It's designed for it, you don't really need a tank or healer and people level fresh conjurers, pugilists and such all the time there.
I'm baffled that you'd avoid faceroll content designed for leveling fresh jobs because "it puts your group at a disadvantage", then go into real dungeons as a tank of all things instead.

The fact you've put several disclaimer posts being defensive over your play style just shows you're well aware you have something to be ashamed of and no matter how much you try and twist it, paint it in a good light and justify it, you should indeed be ashamed for being selfish.

I wish the game would lock you out of DF past lvl 30 if you dont have your job stone. The challenge you speak of is not one that you are facing, but your party members are facing. Sad that you didnt get kicked out more often, you deserve it every single time.

TL;DR: I gimped my DF groups by imposing my personal challenge on them without asking first but since barely anyone told me off (because I got tank privileges and what is that dime a dozen dps gonna do, quit after waiting 20+mins in queue?), it's fine.

The thing that has always tickled me about this 'challenge' is that it isn't a challenge at all; There's 0 prestige or actual difficulty in achieving this, it's just a minor inconvenience that makes everything you do take longer, primarily at other peoples expense.

A 'challenge' is supposed to be just that, challenging. The only actual challenge involved in a job-stoneless run of the game is trying not to get kicked from every DF party you join lmao. Even if you try to brag about accomplishing this, 99% of the people that play this game will just make fun of you, as evidenced by this thread.
