Of course, then we run into the question of how the blue mage trainer learned Sophia's spell.....
Don't handwave my WoL being one of the 1.7% Allagan Elites able to survive the training and being approved for cloning for the elite regiments Q_Q~!

How did he and/or Azulmagia learn the other primal spells? They got the Echo? :O?! Maybe they're holding out some ridiculously awesome Whalaqee Totems that the Whalaqee somehow had...

To answer OP... Maybe for once in his life this would cure Zenos's ennui, and Julyan would have a competent servant afterwards. One she doesn't have to be nice to, who doesn't want her to be nice to him. Hmmm. If it weren't for Godbert, they could be a new power couple :O!
Zenos could be the ultimate simp. “Notice me Senpai” and all.

Next thing you know, Zenos has a Julyan Dakimura pillow or whatever.

There is a part in the MSQ storyline where you take Nanamo to meet with Gilbert and he said WoL is his son's best friend so yeah.

I assume that the Hilde quests are told through his eyes and words. Which is why they're so crazy.

Probably some kind of pseudo-canon that you're not supposed to think about too much.

The overarching idea, that you go on investigations with Hildy, probably accurate.
The background details like the stuff with Sil'dih's past and the zombies, probably accurate.
The specific character moments like Godbert throwing his son into low earth orbit, probably not so accurate.

This is exactly how I interpret it.
The identities and personalities of everyone involved and the events that transpire are canon. Exaggerated facial expressions, body contortions, unbelievably survivable flights/falls/impacts, credits, curtain calls, and other comedic shenanigans are comedic shenanigans added to the story by whoever has chronicled our adventures, to entertain posterity.

Canonically, the WoL is smart enough to know when a Primal can't be reasoned with and when to have friends on call for backup. Journal entries as far back as ARR indicate that not all Primal fights are 1v1:

    (Alphabetized to obfuscate story order)
    (Not a complete list)

    Bismarck:

    Lakshmi:

    Shinryu:

    Shiva:

    Susano:

The Hildibrand quest lines aren't about the WoL, we just happen to be there. So they have a different narrator. I suspect it is Nashu.

I would hope they aren't full canon. Otherwise, I'd be out there berating Godbert and Julyan, wondering why I'm out there killing myself to save the world when they could do it with cooking utensils and a tiny hammer. Lazy SOBs.

Who do you think holds down the fort while we're off saving the world? Somebody has to keep the primals and Garleans and whatever else in check.
