I feel like we didn't have enough Emet. ;-; They took him away so fast. I'm still so conflicted about killing him and am just sad about it and distracted during 5.4+ thinking about it. And needing more explanation about everything. Just wanted to say that lol

I've had a similar issue with post 5.3+ mainly because I really don't care about the people in the Source, whereas you formed a bond with the people in the First. I say nuke the 4 remaining shards + the Void + the Source and have them rejoin to the First.

Exactly, I just want to stay in the First and after the emotional trauma that was 5.0-5.3 I'm simply not ready to do the boring stuff in the source yet haha

Emet-Selch rapidly became one of the most popular Final Fantasy characters of all time during a character popularity poll conducted in Japan. He has also proven to be very popular elsewhere. I strongly suspect that he'll show up again somehow, be it through an Echo vision or through being called upon to lend additional aid from within the Underworld/Lifestream. His voice actor was, after all, hired to narrate a portion of the Endwalker cinematic and so there's a good chance that the writers will play into his popularity by having him pop up again.

You're most certainly not alone, though. Pretty much everybody I discuss the game's lore with feels the same way - they miss Emet-Selch and desire a satisfactory conclusion to the Ascian storyline that plays into the established depth and nuance that Emet-Selch and Elidibus brought to the forefront.

I didn't fully appreciate it my first time around, but having now gone through ShB a second time on my alt, I definitely agree that the First ended up feeling so much more cosy. There's something to be said about an entire (admittedly mostly destroyed) world actually putting aside their differences and coming together in the face of annihilation. I would be quite upset if we end up visiting the First again, which seems a safe bet, in the future only to find them having given in to the same petty rivalries that plague the Source..?

I think I'm the opposite. I don't care for the First at all, and couldn't wait to get back to the Source!

This does help I also just saw the new description of the Endwalker raid, Pandemonium, and I am excited since we're going to basically the Underworld and like,,, Hades,,, I can't wait to see how the story unfolds!

We spend our time on the Source learning about the different city-states and political entities, while we spent our time on the First getting to know the individual people. It's a very different storytelling experience. I find that so many of the Source characters have little role beyond their political job (how often do Merlwyb or Kann-e-senna really do anything not directly tied to leading their nation?) that it's hard to care about them sometimes. Meanwhile, I'd love to spend more time with Ryne or Lyna or the Chais or Runar or Feo Ul. Hell, even Magnus feels more fleshed out than some of the people we've spent years with on the Source, and he's only relevant for about a quarter of one zone!

For that matter, Shadowbringers was the first time I've even cared about some of the Scions. Especially Urianger. His role for most of the game up until this point was to pop in, give some exposition and/or a plot device, and then return to the Waking Sands. ShB was the first time he's actually been around long enough to feel like an actual person to me.

I can see future visits to the First being linked to future expansions if we go down the route of restoring the Thirteenth. Otherwise I think it will be relegated to more "Ishgard Restoration" activities (maybe that's where the Island Sanctuaries will come to play?) or to unearthing ancient ruins in the Empty to explore (new Deep Dungeon or future raids?)
