An expected error has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV.

    Good Afternoon

This past few days the game hasnt been working, each time I log in to my character and the loading screen appears I get this message.

    ------------------------------------------

An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV. 2021-08-16_14:18

    ffxiv_dx11.exe + 1318398

    KERNEL32.DLL + 17034
    ntdll.dll + 52651

    ------------------------------------------

If I disable Directx11 in the launcher I get

    ------------------------------------------

An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV. 2021-08-16_14:17

    ffxiv.exe + 102C39E
    ffxiv.exe + 17A05B

    ffxiv.exe + 32590C
    ffxiv.exe + 33D103
    ffxiv.exe + 345F05

    ------------------------------------------

This change started on the 13/10/2021
That day I logged in around 30 mins after the daily reset 12:30 and completed all 3 mini catpot (gold saucer) and retainer ventures.
That same day I logged in again about 7 hours later (7:30 PM) and this problem started.

The only changes to the PC in that time period were:
    1. Uninstall visual studio community 2019
    2. Uninstall Unity
    3. Genshin Impact version 2.2 update (failed update and later Uninstall of the game)

    All other games work fine

    I dont use mods.

Posible solutions I have tried are:
    1. Verify files integrity
    2. Disable Steam, Discord and Geforce Experience Overlay
    3. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
    4. Reinstall Visual Studio Community 2019 and Unity
    5. Unplug all peripherals
    6. Update drivers
    7. Clean Uninstall and Install drivers
    8. Disable antivirus
    9. Delete FFXIV.cfg file
    10. Delete FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn Folder (the one that holds config and HUD data)
    11. Update directx(it was up to date)
    12. Update Windows with Windows Update
    13. Used DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /****, (No problems found)
    14. Made a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
    15. Uninstall and Re-Install FFXIV (multiple times)
    16. Done Disk Cleanup
    17. Unistall FFXIV - Uninstall Steam Re-Install Steam - Install FFXIV
    18. Full reset of PC (reinstall windows 10 online, not local)

During the multiple Re-Installs of FFXIV there have been cases where i was able to log in, but the moment I enter a loading screen the error message appears (enter dungeon, use aethernet, enter another zone, use teleport)

I apologize i think i fixed it, but i cant find a way to delete the thread.
The solution was to install steam and FFXIV in the C: Drive (i had them on D: ) I dont understand why it never gave me problems before since I started playin on ARR.

I just started to experience the same thing on 10-21-21 as well. Odd it has only did it twice so far. While flying above God's Hand, and today (10-24-21) In Limsa Lominsa. I was able to log back in both times without it doing it again. But once I got back in I teleported somewhere else fast.

I will look to make sure FF is installed on my C drive. But to be honest, I was quite sure I did that when I first installed FF 6 months ago. The only other drives I have are external drives.

I had this happen to me as well. I was originally using an external hard drive, but after reading this I switched the game to my C: drive and was able to continue beyond the scene that used to crash.
