A few questions about this game.

Hi, I'm gonna be living at my dad weekends starting soon, during the week at my moms.
I have a PC, but I can't move it every weekend, it's not really feasible. So I was trying to think of a cheap way to play this on weekends still... Cheapest way I could figure is to get a PS4 second hand, but can I still use my same characters? Otherwise I gotta see if can buy a cheap PC instead. I did see an option to 'backup all character settings' and I am assuming that is for people playing on the same account on different locations.

My other question is, does this game support controllers with extra buttons, like lets say as example, The Xbox Elite Controller, has the paddles at the back. Will that work in this game.

Then I also wanna know, is there a way for me to have my UI setup multiplied?
Like my first character, I got the UI the way I like it, the text bar is in the right spot. The Chat is resized, the double click right trigger makes me get an extra menu. This all took very long to do and I can't remember how to do it all again. Is there a way I can copy it.
I made a new character and it's weird now everything is default.

    Thanks

You can use the same characters, but you have to buy the PS4 version of the game separately to play it on PS4, then enter the code into your existing account.

There is a backup option on the character selection screen which backs up your character or system settings to the cloud, so you can restore them the same way on another device. The button at the top backs up your general settings and the button next to each character backs up the settings for that character, so you should do both.

The game supports controllers really well and I don't know about extra buttons, but I do know that people play with an MMO mouse so there are ways to do it.

You can copy your character settings from one character to another. Go to Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn and look for your CHAR folder. The one that contains a log folder with chat logs that were modified today is most likely the character you have been using, so you can copy the HUD file and paste it into the other CHAR folders.

It's wise to backup the Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn folder before you do this by copy and pasting it to the desktop, in case you do it wrong.

Thank you, thank you so much for this. This was so informative

Okay that is actually a huge relief, so I can play on PS4 as well. Do I still only pay 1 sub fee then?

there is only one sub fee for the game. you also do NOT need to have PS Plus to play XIV on Playstation.

Keep in mind that FF14 is available on steam, too, so if you purchase the steam version you can play it on any PC that you can access steam. That way you don't have to worry so much about using different PCs.

This is a nice thought, but not actually very helpful advice. Firstly, you can already do that(use different PCs) with the PC version - you just have to download the game again(or save and transfer the files over in some way) onto the second machine. The OP doesnt currently have a 2nd PC at their 2nd location and was looking for the cheapest way to continue playing on off-days. Secondly, you cant mix steam pc and non-steam pc permissions on the same account. If they arent already on steam then it is too late.

OP - Check the prices for both. If you can find a reasonablly priced PC you should at least consider it. If you go with a PS4/5 you need to buy the game a second time(and a USB keyboard and possibly mouse would go a long way too), along with any expansion you want to play at both locations(in this case, waiting until next month when the "complete edition" includes the new expansion along with everything currently out would be the easy way). You only ever need one account and one monthly fee, but registration codes for the game and expansions are seperated per service method. With that said, once the proper permissions are set on your account going back and forth between the 2 platforms is as simple as logging out on one and in on the other.
