    One Button Wonder

    Just thinking about how SE has confirmed that the 1 DoT/1 Spammable DPS button will continue for WHM, SCH, and AST for the foreseeable future.

    So as a possible step toward something marginally better that could eventually be expanded on, why couldn't the one button do more? It would not require learning a second button.

    For example, Sage can turn a pew-pew button into a DoT. Summoner can now turn one into very different looking/feeling versions with different summons. You could even do the PvP thing where a single-target rotation is just the same button but three different animations/effects/potencies.

    (To give an off-the-cuff possibility, SCH could get a Summoner-ish treatment and better use of Faerie gauge, WHM could use their lily gauge (or not, meh), and AST a secondary use of cards or a PvP-esque single-button rotation with star themes.)

    I am not suggesting that more experienced and confident healers who are tired of being Glare/Broil/Malefic Mages give up on lobbying for bigger changes, but I think doing more with 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 play is a start.

    If SE is dead set on Healers only having 1 button press for a DoT and a Nuke, could they at least be consistent and give Healers an AoE DoT to go alongside our AoE Nuke as well? Its not as though WHM and SCH didn't have AoE DoTs before and its not as though we aren't already throwing out our single target DoT on trash pulls in dungeons while the tank rounds them up, so what's the harm of giving us that? If they're concerned that we'll try and combine the 2 DoTs in a single target, just do what they did with Thunder for BLM and make it apply the same DoT.

    Aero 3 was such a fun ability to use. It boggles my mind that they deemed that to not be worth keeping.

    Honestly... I can hear their reasonning behind not adding more DPS spell. Okay.
    But for god sake... giving Aero 3 back (or one AOE dot) to every healer (that work in ST of course) is absolutely the very very least I could be asking right now.
    And I would not understand saying that this would put stress on anyone.

    They could. They could even just give an AoE dot to replace single-target so there aren't extra buttons if that is a genuine concern. It would be less stress because during trash pulls less experienced/less confident healers don't have to tab-dot, tab-dot, tab-dot, tab-dot, tab-dot... (Personally I'm fine with a single target and an AoE target dot on the same bar, just thinking of the complexity concern being cited by SE.)

    Add that to the recommended variety for one-button spammables for something that at least has increased utility.

    After the great action culling of 5.0 we were promised that the whole idea behind it was to create a new base to build upon. We were given extensive healing tools and our DPS kit was dumbed down to a point healer dps became easy to mantain and shallow. It ensured ease of access, at the price of being monotonous.

    Endwalker could have been the expansion to build upon what we had lost, add something we didn't have.

    They added more mitigation and healing.

    SCH did get something unique in the form of a speed buff and it's definitely welcome.

    But it's a hefty price for two more years of monotonous Broil spam.

    Straight up, if they have no problem with 1 button filler spam, I have no problem with the following:

    Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
    Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
    Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

    You end up losing a ton of potency with it. The base GCD with no additional spell speed is 2.5 seconds. By waiting 3 between casts, that macro ends up casting 2 (plus a little extra) fewer spells in its timeframe than you would casting them normally.
