are mentors supposed to be helpful for new players?

on balmung i needed to ask a question that no one in my fc had the answer to. so, i hopped on an alt i thought was in NN to ask, he wasnt, so i went to the aetherite in LL and asked for an invite to NN. no answer, then i looked around, and didnt see a single mentor there, ran over to hawker alley, none there. had an idea i might find them in another place, ported to uldah and saw one running from the aetherite, went to quicksand and it was stuffed like normal. plenty of mentors, /s can i get an invite to NN. nothing, do it again, nothing. go outside by the crystal, again, nothing, but hardly anyone out that end of quicksand, go to the other side where its crowded, ask again. nothing, finally someone asks me in tell if ive gotten an invite. not an invite, just the question, says they need to get on an alt to invite. at that point i'd been trying for 15 min in areas that are hubs for new players. one, had NO mentors, the other had dozens, of none responding mentors. what are they for again?

They are supposed to invite sprouts to the Novice Network, either by doing a Player Search or when asked. I can't comment on them ignoring you because they may not have seen what you said or been busy. One of them playing an alt did respond to you too.

The Novice Network has a maximum capacity of 412. This is not usually reached but because of the recent hype it actually got full on most servers making it very difficult to invite to it. I don't know if that eased or not.

Most (majority) of mentors are degen. The only reason they have Burger King crown on their head is for flexing and playing the game for very long time.

I'm not say all of them but most of them are. Everybody in the game are very helpful, if you ever need advice just ask anyone in Limsa in open chat. There are plenty of mentor who don't show off their crown and majority of people hanging out in Limsa are end game people.

I wouldn’t even say most, as a sprout I’ve only ran into maybe 1 or 2 punks. The idea that mentors are all anuses is overexaggerated greatly. With every and egg you’ll find a dozen good ones. Narrow minded use one bad egg to define all of them

Course bots are always going around asking for invites to the NN in order to spam cash3gold and so forth...
Hopefully you did a bit more then just asking to show non bot behavior?

While they are supposed to help, a lot of people become mentors because there is a mount hidden behind the mentor roulette. They're not there for your beck and call. They don't have to pay attention to every sprout 24/7. That's exhausting. They can do their own thing, too.

Besides, going to the Quicksand on Balmung, you're not going to get any responses there. The Quicksand on Balmung is solely an RP hub. Doesn't matter if people had the mentor symbol beside their name or not, they're at the Quicksand to RP, not to help sprouts. No one is going to "break rp" to answer you. Heck, most of them are probably on a chat channel that filters out say, tell, yell, and shout anyway.

Did you try Google? Asking your question in Shout? Posting your question on the forums? Basically, did you exhaust all means of getting an answer to your question before making a thread to complain about mentors?

Now that you mention it, I did notice they didn't even mention what the question was here... and I realize I would have answered it if it had been in that post.

I have a feeling that some Mentors might be slightly burnt out from the influx all of a sudden back in July from the WoW exodus after the lawsuit.

I'm guessing now that things seem to be settling down, they might get back to being better. Though some I am going to guess, just like to flex.

It's unlikely they are burnt out because of that. They might be in general from playing so long or being bored waiting for the expansion.

It's not like there are suddenly new players, there has always been new players if you queue for roulettes so there being an exodus doesn't change that experience. In fact there has been an exodus from WoW for the last 8 years but most of them were not 15-year vets because they had too much attachment to the game, the most recent one was the 15-year vets.
