It's totally up to you when it comes to how many jobs you level up, and it's understandable that you would want to focus on the one (or few) that you enjoy playing.

There are advantages to having multiple jobs, however. For one, being able to perform multiple roles will give you more options down the line when you're looking to do group content. Maybe the group only has room for a tank or a healer, which leaves you out if you can only play a DPS role.

Also, if the queue times are too long for a specific role when working on content you're frequently repeating, being able to switch to a more needed role and getting through the queue quickly can be a benefit (or offer a change of pace to keep things interesting).

Most importantly though, I think, is that becoming familiar with other roles can make you better at your preferred role. For example, as a tank you may be aware that you should be minimizing movement because DPS has to worry about positionals, but once you've been on the receiving end of bad tanking you really start to take something like that to heart. Another example.. after playing a healer and having to put in extra work for party members who frequently planted themselves out of my AOE healing range, you can bet camping out in no-man's land was something I immediately stopped doing when playing a ranged DPS role. You'll also become more familiar with what other jobs can do, because you've played them yourself, and that helps you be more realistic in what you can expect out of your party members.

Finally, if you enjoy stories, some of the class quests are surprisingly decent, and I'm glad I didn't miss them. But that's really hit and miss. Like, I would be sad if someone only played Warrior and assumed all class quests were that bad.

    It's really bad.

There are pros and cons to whichever decision you make. In the long run though, this game is all about making whatever choice is fun for you.

If you play one job exclusively, you will probably learn that job very well. If that is what you find fun, then go for it! One advantage to this is that you are less likely to run into armory chest problems. Mine tends to fill up with all the gear from various level jobs and gathering and crafting gear.

I've always wanted to play a variety of jobs/classes. The good part of that is that I have leveled all 3 healer classes (80, 78, and 74 at the moment) so I have shorter queues for some things. The bad part is that I don't know each one as well as I would like. Over time I will learn them adequately I think for the level I want to play at.

I like casters so I'm working on the physical and magical ranged DPS classes starting with bard and summoner for those. Tank and Melee DPS will be my last ones. The advantage of leveling those is that I'm learning about each of those classes, what they can bring to a group, and what their limitations are. Plus, I'm finding out which jobs are more fun for me to play. One of the things I do is use my healers for some of the duty roulette. I tend to play my dps jobs for MSQ, when playing with family or trusted friends, or when the duty roulette is favoring dps.

Ahh many thanks for the replies! I’m sorry, I appreciate the more viewpoints I hadn’t seen this thread a while after my last response.

Although I made up my mind now to focus Dancer, going to learn Sage and Warrior sometime soon in Endwalker.

    Nothing wrong at all,

This game doesn’t limit you with choices; perhaps some hindrances & opportunities; but never limited.

Feel free to try out other jobs whenever the motivation drive hits you,

All in all do what you love most, if maintaining DNC is the way so be it. You’ll still be able to complete endgame chores, raids etc,. regardless,

Your only limitation may be that some players might ask you to swap for flexibility’s sake though you necessarily don’t have to (nor feel pressured) since you’ve signed up for DPS, so then reinforce your specifically signed in for it (be it raids, static etc,.).

The game is incredibly huge & even then with just Aim-ing with one job you still have much to do or follow through chores.

Ultimately this is the fundamental freedoms we have with FFXIV without being incriminated or being put aside because of “choice” (unlike most MMOS in which majority of player base tend to reinforce unnecessary norms/gearing/elite-ism etc,.).

Enjoy FFXIV, enjoy it all my dear friend!

PS: You’re talking to someone who also “purist” with just playing as PLD; have no regrets, did get WHM to 80 but decided healing isn’t my forte.

    Cheers,
