Is it ‘ok’ to be one class only?

Sorry for the kind of newbie question but let’s say I wished to just be a Dancer and just focus on getting really good at it and let it be my ‘thing’ would I be losing out? While I understand that I could level other roles without penalty would I lose anything by not doing it? (I am thinking down the line to learn Warrior and Sage to be able to do one of each role too but not really more than that).

depends on your definition on missing out. you can stay one job forever your choice but each job has its own story its own playstyle and own gear(for glamour of course) so it really what you consider missing out on cause dps will always be needed in all conetnt. you wont miss stuff on msq just 1 line or other depends on the expansion but everything is pretty much the same for all jobs in almost all content

Mostly plan to finish Endwalker once it comes out, then probably focus on glamour endgame and graduate to the streets of Limsa. Hope to one day be useful to people doing normal raids too.

you should be fine other then focus on endgame glamour cause some roles get the flashier gear but for normal raids or higher play the job you are good at and that is all what ppl care

    No.
There is no wrong way to have fun.

    Yes.
Playing other roles gives you a better understanding of the game as a whole and helps you better contextualize DNC.
Even if you just wanna dance you can benefit from a better understanding of what the rest of the party is/can be doing.

If you want to just be one class or role you can.

However, there is job specific gear for glamour, different unique storylines etc etc.

I myself am a red mage main. However, take a look at my signature and youll see I've got nearly all my classes capped out. This is because, partly because glamour and partly because there is a mount reward for capping all classes at 80.

I'm someone who started out playing just one thing... and then slowly, literally over the better part of a decade now, have started to branch out.

In general, I tend to follow the tendency across other games - I'm definitely someone who prefers to specialize and go very in depth within that specialization.

So, yes, you can definitely do it. There's merits to diversity as well, but... my vote would be for you to just keep playing DNC and if/when curiosity or some other motive makes you eventually want to try other stuff, then by all means do so - but IMO, don't do it because it feels like an obligation.

You would only miss out on the story quests of each class, the mount from leveling them all to 80, the experience of playing them which is fun, the fact different fights can present a different amount of challenge to different roles (for example, some fights are hard for a tank and some of them are hard for a dps). You would also miss out on crafter and gatherer content in the firmament, ocean fishing and certain beast tribes.

None of these things matter a lot unless you are someone that likes to experience everything in the game or collect all mounts and most people do main just one class even if they switch to a different one occasionally for fun.

There is nothing "wrong" with only playing one class/job certain to some considerations.......

You might find that you become over levelled for the content you are playing especially if you are on a world with the Road to 70 buff - in those instances it may be wiser to try and level at least two class/jobs so that once you out-level the content (no longer get exp from general mob kills) you can swap over to the other and not lose out on that exp for yourself or for your Chocobo companion. Would be ideal to have one class/job ten levels higher than another in this instance.

But in any event its your game - you play it how you want to.

For the most part, no you would not be missing out by just playing one class. The devs specifically designed the game so that anyone can play their dream class and nothing else if desired.

The only think you'd be missing (aside from faster queue times) is whatever story is tied to other classes and roles (the latter starting with Shadowbringers). There is a short storyline in Shadowbringers that requires that you complete every role questline to access, but it's hardly mandatory.
