    6.0 fishing

    Since nobody done that : a thread to see if there are any ideas of how fishing is going to work with 6.0 with the removal of HQ gathering

    -mooching :
    Best case you can always do it ; worst case you can on a recast ? how will that affect big fishies ?

    -patience :
    they said something like "quality actions will go to yeld instead" but i can't really see them doing that.

    -ocean fishing scores :
    I guess they'll balance that ? or have a size ratio for each fish ?

    -HQ achievements :
    removed ? legacy-ed ?

    I guess we'll see with next LL.

    I can almost see them keeping Patience and Mooching, except using them for increasing yield and/or collectibility rating. For example, if you want a collectible fish with X rating, you have to mooch with a different collectible with Y rating. In order to get Y rating, you need to be using Patience.

    Other than a direct, simple, multiplier on fish caught, perhaps the HQ proc would give a free Identical Cast (?).

    It'll likely remain completely unchanged, only that the previous requirement for mooch (and mooch 2) will be a fish of sufficient size. It won't be HQ when it hits your inventory, but if it's above the size threshold that currently marks it as an HQ fish it'll still be eligible for the actual Mooch action.

    Honestly nothing will really change that much. Whether something is NQ or HQ is independent of the size of the fish so instead of using the percentages to decide whether a fish is NQ or HQ, Mooch will likely be usable when a fish is in a certain upper percentile of its size range. Actions like Patience and Patience II will raise the floor of the size range so that the likelihood of being in the Mooch range is high, which is pretty much the same function as before.

    The same size range could be applied to Ocean Fishing too, where sizes that fall into the Mooch tier are given double points just like HQ fish are now.

    As for the achievements, they said these would be adjusted to work with the new system so you don't have to worry about them being removed.

    NQ/HQ fish are tied to the size of the fish. It's why the HQ animation makes it look like you're reeling in a larger/heavier fish.

    During the live letter, they mentioned that fishing would use a "different parameter" when it comes to HQ, so what you've described in the rest of your post is probably accurate on what they plan on doing with fishing in Endwalker.

    I expect them to change the name of Mooch II to Mooch and remove the cooldown while keeping the GP cost.

    Ocean fishing scores will no doubt be adjusted.

    As for the rest, I don't know.

    I just like to see them finally deal with bait and create a specific bait storage, if the database is so stretched could even move bait to a key item list to reduce inventory.

    I think they said they wouldn't do it, but yeah I think I have like 40-50 baits on me/boko; that's kinda annoying whan an expac comes up.

    I'd love to see them do away with bait entirely and just use lures. Have generic Freshwater Top, Middle, Bottom and Saltwater Top, Middle, and Bottom then call it good. The three different gig heads work better for different types of fish, so why not use different types of lures for different types of fish?


    I'd love to see Goldsmith be able to make all the lures again with HQ items give an increased chance to get larger fish.

    While I agree a bait storage would be nice...may I ask a question?
    What are you guys doing with so many different baits?
    I have like 6 maybe. 3 for ocean fishing, 3 for the big fish I have left to catch, and that's pretty much it...I could understand going up to 15 at times, but 40? You don't need to keep all the ARR/HW/StB baits anymore...
