Changes I hope to see in Summoner in the future (please don't take res away)

I know it's a bit of an unpopular opinion right now, with all the talk of Summoner being 'dumbed down' and 'oversimplified', and honestly, yeah, it is a really simple job. But... I'm a fan. Summoner's rework kinda saved the game for me and made me actually look forward to doing my roulettes. Simple, flashy, genuinely fun.

While I would love to see a bit of additional complexity added to its rotation, what I would love even more is to see its existing support capability added on to. Physick is currently... very pointless, I would love to see it changed to some sort of Carbuncle skill, either a heal that actually scales off INT with a heftier cooldown, or... something, I don't know. Just something to make both it and the Carbuncle a bit more useful, since all the little bugger does right now is act as a prerequisite for my more powerful skills.

Furthermore... please don't take resurrection away. Ever. I know it barely sees use and it's a holdover from the SMN/SCH split, but it's so nice to have to assist in party recovery, and I don't think anyone wants to see RDM as the sole "mandatory" Caster DPS in prog. On top of that, given FFXIV's history, do y'all REALLY want to take resurrection away from the class that can summon Phoenix, the summon whose classic function is to resurrect the party?

Again, I love the new summoner. I appreciate its rework, I just hope to see at least a little support worked in.

I really like the new summoner as well, and I hope they continue to build upon it in ways that keep it approachable, but gives it more nuance.
In an ideal scenario, I picture the following:

    - Removal of the aether gauge, which is replaced with something else entirely. Not sure what though.
    - Slight nerf to Phoenix potency, but giving it more utility. Maybe its "kindle" ability could be an AoE heal, or maybe summoning Phoenix could make ressing instant while it's out.
    - Making whether to summon Phoenix or Bahamut a choice, rather than a rotating cycle. If the situation calls for damage, Bahamut time. If you need utility, Phoenix time.
    - The future introduction of a DoT based poison mage or necromancer, to give the fans of old SMN something back.

    I completely agree.
It'll be a sad day if SMN ever loses Res.
I cannot tell you how many runs I've saved with that skill. I'd feel totally naked without it.

New SMN is great, sure it's simple but why does a class have to be complex to be compelling?

I hope they build upon it's foundation and give us other famous Primals like Ramuh and everyone's favorite hype turtle Susano.

Also I love the idea that each primal you summon changes up how your rotation feels by you taking on the aspects of each Summon. Susano can have you go into Melee for some magic blade moves, Ramuh you go Long Range and can throw lightning/maybe a ground-targeted lightning cloud move, etc etc.

I like that the new SMN is easier. I love the animations, feels very cool to summon the primals.
That being said... the job does feel WAY too easy though. I just want there to be this one more thing to keep it a bit more interesting. Something more to think about in a fight. It doesn't have to be hard, just a bit more engaging.

There are a few things i'd personally like to see though.
Carbuncle's Radiant Aegis (shield ability) feels completely out of place. I'm not a fan of a self shield that u can't use half of the time. Sure it has a long duration but it feels kinda pointless. And to top it off we get another stack of it later on. It interacts with nothing and we can't use the shield on other players to help out. I wish this was an offensive ability of ssome sort. Maybe it coulda been one dot that lasts for 30 seconds or so, something small that adds to the rotation where we have to use it to increase our dps, something meaningful, something that says "the carbuncle is still here doing some damage." Doesn't have to be a dot. I personally wouldn't mind if Aetherflow became a carbuncle ability either.

Talking about Aetherflow as it stands right now I think it would better be replaced with a new mechanic or reworked. It feels just tacked on without it interacting with anything.

But my biggest problem is that rotation wise Ifrit, Titan & Garuda don't do much different. There's no real reason to change up our order of summoning. I'd have liked to see something that makes us want to change up our rotation a bit other than just not using Ifrit when we gotta move. DPS aside, Ifrit is ok i guess (pls buff Ifrit.) but the other 2 are too much of the same and don't really do anything different.

Oh also on the visual aspect it woulda been cool if they kinda did what they did with RPR shroud where it changes their look where we get additional features to our character based on what primal summon we're in. Ifrit claws & horns when channeling Ifrit, flying around & having wings when channeling Garuda & idk big rocky arms & long white hair when channeling Titan? I feel like this was missed opportunity.

Because Summoner isn’t just simple, it’s a rehash of mechanics from other classes AND simple. The primals don’t change nearly enough to justify their presence like they used to.

Personally id rather they took both Physick and Resurection away. Both while useful in the long run dont actually offer much compared to the dps tax we get for having it.

It would also be a very easy way of differentiating between Blm, SMN and RDM utility offerings.

ALso given how the new summoner works, Resurection, even swift casted is extremely punishing.

YP also said it was retained by the skin of its teeth, so personally i think it will likely go at some point.

They can keep Resurrection based on what Phoenix is supposed to do AND because RDM does a lot more damage alongside having instarez, great heals and good utilities. Meanwhile SMN DPS is laughably low.

If they took away Resuurection they would have to beef up their damage to BLM levels or higher.
