I have a pretty decent macro that using only NQ materials with no Good or Excellent procs during the quality phase gets to about 81% with the closer which has Byregot's poor protection and 98% without out.

Closer with Byregot poor protection:
...
/ac "Hasty Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Prudent Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Prudent Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Innovation" <wait.2>
/ac "Great Strides" <wait.2>
/ac "Byregot's Blessing" <wait.3>
/ac "Basic Synthesis" <wait.3>
/echo Macro #2 complete <se.14>

Closer without Byregot poor protection:
...
/ac "Hasty Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Innovation" <wait.2>
/ac "Prudent Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Prudent Touch" <wait.3>
/ac "Great Strides" <wait.2>
/ac "Byregot's Blessing" <wait.3>
/ac "Basic Synthesis" <wait.3>
/echo Macro #2 complete <se.14>

I did 50 crafts with each with rotation:
With poor protection:
81% is base progress; 88% was more closely the average because of good/excellent procs during the testing.
45 HQ and 5 NQ

Without poor protection: 46 HQ and 4 NQ
98% is the base progress; 100% was more closely the average except when I got a poor Byregot's when that happens, the HQ percentage was closer to 30% HQ; which I failed all 4 times during the testing but I should have on average hit one of those.

It looks to me that Byregot's protection is far less valuable unless you can hit 100%.
But I wanted to hear about your experiences.
